Hi everyone! I’ve recently moved to Aarhus and I’m trying to figure out the best way to get an e-bike without spending a lot upfront. I live around 6–7 km from Aarhus city centre, and public transport takes me almost 1 hour each way. By e-bike, Google Maps estimates around 22 minutes, so I’m seriously considering cycling to work.

Ideally, I’d like to rent an e-bike for a month first to see whether I can realistically manage the commute before committing to buying one.

Does anyone know of:

1. Affordable monthly e-bike rentals in Aarhus? Shops that rent e-bikes for longer periods?
2. Good second-hand options or places to buy a reliable used e-bike?
3. Any subscription/leasing schemes that are reasonably priced?

I’m not looking for anything fancy — just a reliable e-bike for a daily 6–7 km commute. My main priority is keeping the long-term cost low. Would really appreciate recommendations from people who have actually used these options in Aarhus.

I’m moving to Aarhus soon for a full-time position as an Environmental Scientist/Postdoc at Aarhus University, and I’m currently trying to find a place to live from around October 2026.

And wow… I did not expect the housing search to feel almost like another job hunt. 😅

I’ve already sent 50+ messages/applications, mostly through Facebook housing groups and BoligPortal. I try to write proper introductions rather than just “is this available?”, but quite often I either don’t hear back or the place is already gone.

So I thought I’d ask the Aarhus Reddit community for some advice — and maybe a little help!

A bit about me: I’m 31, originally from India, and I’ve lived in Europe for more than five years, including Finland and Germany. I’m moving to Aarhus for my new position at Aarhus University. I’m clean, responsible, easy-going, a non-smoker and generally pretty quiet at home. I love nature, travelling, exploring new places and having relaxed evenings.

I’m open for both an apartment and a commune to happily live with people. I’m flexible about the exact area as long as getting to Aarhus University is reasonably convenient, and I’m looking for something from October or possibly November.

For those who have successfully found housing in Aarhus:

Am I missing something? Are there particular websites, Facebook groups, housing associations, property companies or other channels that are actually worth focusing on? Is contacting landlords/property managers directly common here?

And if anyone happens to know of a studio, small apartment or room becoming available around October/November, I would be incredibly grateful for a lead. 🙏

I’m looking for recommendations for sending two large suitcases from Finland to Germany (to a friend’s address).

I’ll be travelling to Germany myself, but my journey involves a flight plus several train connections afterwards. I really don’t want to drag two heavy suitcases through airport and multiple train changes, so I’m thinking of shipping them separately beforehand and travelling light.

I already know about Send My Bag, which seems like the most obvious door-to-door option. Are there any other reliable services/platforms I should compare with it?

Ideally I’m looking for: Door-to-door pickup and delivery Ability to send actual suitcases (not necessarily having to put them inside cardboard boxes) Reasonable price

Has anyone done something similar recently? Which service did you use, how much did it cost approximately, and would you recommend it?

I’ll be moving to beautiful Aarhus toward the end of September to start a new position at Aarhus University. My visa process took a little longer than expected because of the summer holidays, so I’m only now starting my housing search.

Ideally, I’m looking for a 2-bedroom apartment, but I’m also very open to sharing a flat/house with friendly people.

A little about me: I’m a researcher/scientist, moving to Aarhus for work at the university. I’m clean, responsible and easy-going, and I’m hoping to find somewhere that feels like home rather than just temporary accommodation.

My background is: MSc completed in 2017 (India) PhD completed in India 2 years of postdoctoral experience at an EU Universiry All of my research experience since my MSc has been relevant to the position.

I'm wondering: How is salary seniority actually calculated for postdocs at Aarhus University?

Does post MSc time spent count towards salary seniority if it was completed outside Denmark or non EU nation?

Based on my background, would I likely be placed closer to Scale 5, Scale 6, or even Scale 8? I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been hired as a postdoc at AU or another Danish university and has gone through the salary placement process.

Hi folks,

I've been taking lessons at Autokoulu but honestly feel like I need more behind-the-wheel time before my test on the 18th (failed my first one 😞 for being too slow driver). I've already spent a lot on the driving school and would love to get some extra practice without paying autokoulu prices.

I'm looking for someone who'd be willing to take me out for a drive – I am happy to pay a reasonable amount. Even just an hour or two of city and highway driving practice would make a huge difference.
