Company to explore Helsinki

I'm 30F. Doing this for the first time. I'm in Helsinki in the last weekend of July 25-26th. I would like to explore with someone. I'm from India. I would like to see the popular spots in the city, grab something to eat. Maybe a short trek, a museum visit. That's my vibe. A good conversation to add to it.

Please get in touch if anyone is interested!

Cheap student budget PassiKuva

Hey,

I am a student extending my residence permit for continuing my masters in finland and need some new id pics.

what’s a cheap store you can recommend in helsinki /espoo area? I dont see the point of paying 20€ for a simple ID pic so I want the cheapest possible option.

Thanks

I walked Helsinki's parks for two months and made a little app that turns them into collectible pixel-art cards — which parks did I miss?

Hei! I'm an immigrant living in Helsinki, and since moving here the thing that's kept me sane is walking. Last spring I started building a small iOS app around that habit, and it went live on the App Store a couple of weeks ago — so I figured I'd share it with the subreddit of the city it's about.

The idea: as you walk around Helsinki, the app notices when you're near one of 101 parks and lets you "collect" it — you get a pixel-art card with a short poem about that park, written in English, Finnish and Chinese. Over time you fill a personal dex of the city's green spaces, from Esplanadi down to tiny neighborhood pocket parks you'd only know if you lived next to them.

Some things it deliberately doesn't do: no ads, no account, no streaks, no feed. The privacy label is literally "Data Not Collected" — location is checked on-device and never leaves your phone. It's free and I have nothing to sell you; I just wanted more excuses to go outside, and maybe you do too.

Two things I'd genuinely love help with from locals:

  1. Which parks did I miss? I curated the 101 by walking, Googling and staring at maps, but I'm sure there are beloved local spots that aren't on my list. Tell me your favorite underrated park and I'll add it in an update.
  2. If you're a native Finnish speaker: each card h'd love a sanity check on whether they read naturally or like a foreigner wrote them with too ew in the comments.

iOS only for now, sorry Android folks — it's a one-person project built on Apple's stack.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6779690988

Kiitos, and see you in the parks 🌳

Hey, does anyone know if i can find these wide biang biang noodles in any restaurants in Helsinki? I had them in Brussels and london and they were really good. I tried to find them here but I'm not sure which restaurants have them.

Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Nursing student in Helsinki looking for work in elderly/home care(118+ credits done)

Hei,

I’m studying public health nursing (118+ credits completed) and I’m looking for work in the Helsinki area elderly care, home care, assisted living, anything nursing-adjacent. I’ve been in Finland for two years, mostly navigating things on my own, and I really need steady work at this point, both for the experience and the income (If you have any other type of work I’m open for that too!).

I’m flexible on shifts (days, nights, weekends). If you work in the sector, know of openings, or can point me to companies currently hiring nursing students, I’d really appreciate it. Even a small lead helps. Kiitos :)

Pientuottajien ruokaerikoisuuksia?

Time and access to the ZOO

I am travelling to Espoo and I will arrive to the Helsinki airport 3 hours before the check-in time. Is this enough time to visit Helsinki ZOO?

What is the best way to go to it? I will have rent-a-car so I will need someplace to park the car.

Thaks for the replies.

Five days in Helsinki: looking for fun, quirky or unique things to do,

EDIT: Thank you all so much. We now have lots to choose from.
Questions:
- is there any need for local currency, or is everything tap-to-pay?
- are the buses and trams tap on/tap off or do we need to buy tickets or passes?
-is tipping expected at restaurants? and if so, what is normal?

We are a group of four older adults, visiting in August, and we are planning on doing a couple of the typical things: Porvoo, Suomenlinna, and some city walking to enjoy the beautiful architecture. We'd also like to get into nature for some trees and fresh air. [Is Turku worth a visit?]

We are hoping to find things that are special - we've found some information about the underground bunker system which looks really interesting and different from home. We are looking for more things like that; things specific to Helsinki or Finland. Think quirky little museums, fun cafes, authentic restaurants, city parks... We are not looking for party scene/clubbing.

I understand the vast majority of Finns will speak English, but we are concerned about things like signs, instructions and schedules for public transport, menus etc. Is that a valid worry? Also please let me know of anything that Finns might find offensive or irritating, so I don't make too big of a fool of myself.

On another note, which Finnish authors should I be reading?

Kiitos.

What are people wearing in Helsinki right now?

Visiting for a week from a Mediterranean country where temperatures are reaching 36 C during the day. Should I bring short sleeves and trousers? Jackets for the evening? Any and all help appreciated 🙏🏻

Vintage medical stuff

Hey there! I'm a frequent-ish visitor but this is something I've never considered before so I'll be grateful for any tips.

Basically I am looking to buy a gift for someone who collects vintage medical stuff. Instruments, preparations, atlases, charts, accessories. Dental, surgical, obstetrical or otherwise. Plenty such stuff in Italy and Spain; not so much in the Nordic countries. But do any of you perhaps have an idea if any flea market in or around Helsinki might be selling such curiosities?

And, more broadly, are there any curiosity type shops that you know of? The only thing that stuck in my mind was the little Gnostic bookshop called Aioni.

Are there any authentic Mexican restaurants?

Well as the caption says. Are there any authentic Mexican restaurants with lots of dishes other than just tacos and burritos? lol

D&D groups

How can I find D&D groups in Helsinki for English speakers? I really want to get into it but sadly don’t know anyone from here that’s into D&D
I would love some guidance and advice in general on making friends within more of the “nerdy” community!
