PSA: Orchids bloom again and last for years. I keep finding perfectly good orchids in the bio bin of my building. I don't understand why people throw live plants away like that. If you have an orchid, there are some basic steps to keep it healthy so it blooms again.

I have rescued three orchids from the bio bin already, one is currently blooming again. Please, stop throwing them away. Just remove the small brown peat plug they are sold with, add sphagnum moss to the pine bark they came with, and keep them in a humid, not soaked, state, with light reaching the roots. They bloom again, and they are kept for years.

Feedback wanted: my first attempt at kusamono with a coconut shell, locally foraged Oxalis corniculata, a moss that appeared in my maple's pot, and some locally foraged sun-withstanding mosses.

The coconut shell is from a Lidl ice cream and tends to let moisture outwards, so it is not hermetic. The moss likes as much sun as the Oxalis. I need the stone as counterweight for the coconut shell that otherwise tilts to one side. I need to clean up the dead stalks, it is just so small I am having trouble seeing them. Any feedback regarding aesthetics is appreciated since I have never done this. Thanks in advance.

Seeking Help: Japanese Maple has stopped all growth since June.

I planted this maple from seed (from Switzerland) and it sprouted this Spring. All was looking well. It had a day or two of dryness in June (hot days for Finland, about 27C) while in a plastic pot, and then it stopped growing. The tip has been like this since June. No leaves have sprouted again. I switched it to the clay pot because the soil was too wet. Is there hope? Thanks.

My Asparagus setaceus is going nuts this summer. Why?

She's thrown several huge spikes and I don't know where I will be able to put her come winter. There are about three more than hang low. Why is this happening? She has lots of indirect bright light, is it not enough? How will I handle all this growth? Is this a case of "my lobster is too buttery"? Thanks.

Need planter advice

Hello, I need advice on planter size for the near future. Next summer I want to have two planters with three coleus types in each. I currently have two types (red and bright green w purple) in a planter that is 24x24x24 cm. I have two other types rooting as well. Sadly I do not yet know the names of any of the varieties. Note that I am in the Nordics so the plants lose vibrancy and stop growing during October to February, despite being indoors with lamps. What is the recommended planter size for three coleus plants each? thanks in advance!

Interesting bed sheet motif....

This is a nice, not cheap brand of home products and I do not understand why they did not put dragonflies or butterflies instead of them...

Edit: I took this two days ago but if you want the set, here it is https://www.finlayson.fi/products/suukko-pussilakanasetti
it is not AI . The print is called Kiss (Suukko). "The Suukko pattern, designed by Jenna Kunnas, challenges the formula of traditional floral patterns. There are many surprising and intriguing elements among the flowers and kisses."

My summer balcony is done!

The far area is the living room area, the near one is the dining area. There is a small area with tomatoes and basil in pots that is behind where I was standing. I am enjoying this summer spending as much time as possible in my balcony, enjoying the birds and the quietness.

Edit: the modular is ikea nammaro, the small version (there are two). I got 4 seating parts and 5 backrests. I chose the cushions that have smooth covers instead of the puffy looking ones. the three large cushions are also ikea. the two small ones with stripes are French Basque/Catalan

Moi! Where can one find salted Norwegian cod (suolattu kuivattu turska) in Espoo or Helsinki?

Hello, in Spain this cod is very popular and common. I am not sure where I could find it in Helsinki. It seems a fishmonger named E. Eriksson in Holkkitie 12 a, 00880 Helsinki sells it but wholesale (?). Thanks for any suggestions!

First picture is the space, and I plan to have a living area in the far back of the image, and a summer dining area closer to the front. There are white blackout curtains from the ceiling to the floor on the side of the glazing as in the second picture. I am getting two rattan dining chairs with possibly the large square flower cushions. I will get the sofa combo and those linen-y cushions. However, not sure which rug to get for the couch area. I think the oriental style is best, but perhaps the flower one will carry over the flower theme from the dining area. Do any go well? Any other ideas? Would solid colour be best? Thanks in advance.
