Patch #6: Why So Late, and Why Bother?

Patch #6: Why So Late, and Why Bother?

It goes without saying that the current patch is unsatisfactory both at the pro level and on the ladder, and rumor has it that there will be another big patch coming after BlizzCon.

The prize pool is surprisingly low, even with the RSL offline finals happening at the same time (~$10k USD in 2025). How does this qualify as an S-tier patch if the prize pool is this low?

Also, if the legacy team/PiG/OmniSkeptic (idk, name your own conspiracy theory) knows that things are bad and is trying to do something about it, trivial effort as it may be, why not do so ASAP? Isn't that the whole point of damage control? Also, why even bother doing a balance patch at all when the best tournament Blizzard can offer has only a $20k prize pool and the pro scene is pretty much in the toilet?

I have no doubt that the next patch is going to wreck protoss again, while giving the race some "buffs" to units nobody even uses.

Shame on whoever's responsible for this hot mess.

Have a nice day.

Looking for a stream clip: PiG gets nuked 3 times in a row as Protoss in pvz

For some time now, I’ve been reading on reddit that pig has been saying things like, “Every single protoss player is using the gateway wrong.” And there was one time when he played protoss and got destroyed by zerg three times in a row.

Does anybody know when this hilarious event was streamed? I really want to watch it.

TY very much!

The Blame Doesn’t End with OmniSkeptic and PiG

As much as I hate OmniSkeptic and PiG, I honestly do not think the two should be solely responsible for this hot mess. Meaning, whatever garbage they proposed got accepted by Blizzard. In the end, it is up to Blizzard to decide what goes live and what does not.

Still, OmniSkeptic is a rude, unsophisticated mapmaker with poor mapmaking skills and questionable judgment.

PiG, on the other hand, is a “stale” content creator who is willing to throw the game and its players under the bus in a hot second just to get more video views. He is also a hypocrite, dodging the heat of PTR2 discussions by playing AoE2 non-stop, then eagerly uploading multiple guide videos only a day after the official update, and blaming Blizzard’s devs for the hotfix—which, by the way, had a lot to do with the 8-worker start that HE PROPOSED.

I will continue to not support SC2 by not playing, not purchasing in-game products, and not purchasing the SC2 FPS game.

Two weeks into the new patch. Chaos or "diversity"?

From the results of HomeStory Cup XXIX and GSL CK #5, as well as the responses from numerous ladder players, it looks like the larva spawn rate is still far too strong, and Zerg is, without a doubt, imbalanced.

The situation for Protoss and Terran players has also become much worse due to the lower starting worker count and the warpgate change. Let's be realistic, the new warpgate mechanism annoying to use and is clearly killing ground-toss players' incentive to play. Many long-time players I've talked to have already quit.

And it's not like we're going to get a hotfix anytime soon, given blizzard's current level of irresponsibility. I'm deeply disappointed with pretty much everything that's happened since PTR1, and I hope some of you feel the same.

I'm not playing this shit again until the balance issues are at least somewhat addressed.

PiG sucks too. Shame on him for throwing the game under the bus just to make some cheap BO content. There was nothing "stale" about the previous patch. What was actually stale were his videos and streams.

Personal thoughts on the latest patch

In short, I think the patch is horrible and needs to be reverted completely. Despite the short-term exposure on social media and somewhat new “merit” with the changes, this will drive core players away from the game and inevitably negatively impact the sale of the new StarCraft FPS game and people’s overall faith in Blizzard in general.

The solution to this is simple: revert back to patch 5.0.15 and start from scratch (or do nothing at all from the start—your efforts on this patch are really not appreciated.).

I will elaborate on why I personally think the patch is bad from 4 perspectives:

1. Unqualified people making unaccounted decisions

I believe by now most people realize OmniSkeptic and PiG are directly and indirectly involved in the two PTRs and the official patch. They are community map makers and YouTube content creators rather than professional game balance designers. And yet, Blizzard decided to listen to them regarding the worker change, the pickup, and more annoyingly the warpgate change etc.

These two individuals are not Blizzard employees, and they are most likely to benefit from the patch (it was released on Tuesday, and PiG already has beginner tutorials uploaded for all three races. I wonder why he got a head start). This is clearly a conflict of interest (people benefiting from decisions they influenced), but I guess Blizzard doesn’t care at this point.

2. Lack of communication

When the first PTR was released, it had tons of bugs and balance issues. Many core players like myself were concerned by the unprofessionalism and Protoss-hate it represents. However, there was no communication between the community and the people making the balance decisions whatsoever. Then there was Omni, spamming on Reddit like there is no tomorrow.

After 3 weeks of complete silence from the devs, PTR #2 came out with the insane Zerg economic and production advantage. Again, there was no explanation for why the changes were made. Less than 4 days later, PTR 2 made its way to ladder (with minimal testing), despite countless objections from the community, professional players, and tournament organizers.

I can’t help but wonder why Blizzard would make such big, drastic balance changes at this point. Is Blizzard trying to raise attention to sell the new FPS or something (at the cost of its long-term SC2 fan base)? Or is the goal of the new patch just to change things around? Not making the game better or more balanced in any way, the goal of the change is change itself.

3. Questionable incentive to change long-time, fundamental mechanism of the game

The warpgate is a 16-year-old mechanism of Protoss. It is one of the biggest defining characteristics, allowing Protoss to warp in reinforcements in energy fields. If people wanted to queue up units, they might as well just be playing Terran. Not to mention gateway units are the worst in mass.

Typically, 8 warpgates are adequate for a 3-base economy, and in this patch a mandatory 200/200 is taxed (almost equivalent to a Colossus). This is quite a big discouragement in the midgame if Protoss wants to move across the map. What it does encourage is the infamous Skytoss.

It is also really inconvenient to have one production structure be in two different states — a pain for army control and production groups.

The current larva respawn speed is concerningly high; it gives even more economic and production advantage compared to the 12-worker patch. It defeats the whole purpose of fewer workers, a slower game, and more strategy.

4. Changes are not automatically good or bad

I’ve said it before and will say it again: having a balance change to the game is not necessarily good. Just look at how broken Zerg is (ladder and tournament). Giving Marines +3 range is also a “change,” but it is too broken to be a good change.

What I expect from the SC devs (if there are any) is to revert back to the last patch and start from there. Open up a portal for discussion and listen to the actual players (not some random idiotic Redditor who basically supports anything anti-Protoss). Maybe even create a poll in-game. Give any balance changes more time to be tested.

I sincerely hope this beautiful game is not diminished by the ignorance of its own developers, and I hope for some sensible, balanced changes going forward. We’ve already seen how the current patch has created arguments and divergence within the community.

This is really just my own jibber-jabber of concerns about the future of the game. Thank you all for reading this far, and have a nice day.

Sick changes! Having changes is always better than having no changes at all, right? Also, calm down guys — it's only been 4 days since PTR#2. I'm sure the devs can tune the numbers properly.

Oh wait.

Posts deleted, accounts banned, community voices muffled

Many posts targeting OmniSkeptic's questionable intentions and actions were deleted yesterday. I know for a fact that some of them were removed by the starcraft moderator. Some people even received permanent bans.

Even memes like this one (no harsh language, only portraying genuine quotes from OmniSkeptic himself) did not last for 24 hours. I did not create this wonderful meme either; credit should go to someone else, but I can no longer confirm who, since the original post has been removed.

By now, I’m sure many people are furious after learning about OmniSkeptic’s connection to the two PTRs and what they perceive as his prejudice in general. Unfortunately, it seems the moderator has decided to silence the discussion at this point.

What a shame.

Raising concerns regarding Omni_Skeptic (ignorant, rude, hates protoss so much that he "contributes" to the buggy/biased PTR for free)

In this post I’m sharing some direct quotes from Omni_Skeptic. Curious what others think about the tone and bias reflected here:

Seriously, who tf is this guy, and why is someone this hostile and tilted involved in balance updates for a PAID GAME?

Sincere warning (with a bit of attitude) regarding the PTR patch

For people who are currently AFK from the game (or don’t even have SCII installed anymore), please hear me out. Many of you are supporting or cheering for the new worker-count and Warp Gate changes simply because you haven’t actively played the game for a very long time.

If this obviously undercooked patch goes live, it will bring a huge amount of chaos to the game or “diversity,” as some of you call it. But remember this: if you come back, you will still feel overwhelmed on ladder. Active players — assuming they don’t quit after this stupid patch will still out-micro and out-macro you. You’ll get frustrated and leave again.

What remains is a patch that:

  1. destroys professional tournaments,
  2. pushes active players away,
  3. increases unnecessary learning time for the people who actually continue playing.

It will only make the game environment worse.

Think it through, guys.
