Garrison Ranch Reserve Tasting
Picked these up from Trevor's Liquor in Phoenix for $149.99 each. This is Garrison's newest release, one is finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks and the other in PX Sherry Casks.
The Oloroso carries a very forward fruit note and the usual Garrison leather and oak is back there. It's a lighter, creamier version of itself. First sip gives me strawberry shortcake and lots of it, it's quite good. On the back end it turns a little orangey, oddly. So went from strawberry and cream to strawberry shortcake to orange chocolate. It's a smooth transition and it works well. I enjoy this.
The PX is a sledgehammer. Lots of leather and molasses and maybe some burnt brown sugar. It has dark fruit and some molasses in front of that usual Garrison leather and oak. This thing is in your face. I love it.
Overall I prefer the Oloroso simply because it's easy to drink and works any time. PX is a mood in itself so if you aren't feeling it then it won't work.
Cheers!
