Stoked about this one for MNF

$50. Haven’t had it yet, but I enjoy OGD 114, so excited for the extra age and single barrel variation of this guy. Hopefully can be sipping it while USA beat up on Belgium! What are you sipping on during Monday night football?

Indri or Amrut?

Hi guys,

Monsoon and holiday so planning with friends. I prefer Amrut as I prefer my drink with a little fruity taste whereas almost 80% of my friends prefer Indri. What are your opinions and choices. Btw any age is fine. This is just to check what people actually prefer.

Blind tasted six more bourbons. Went 4/6 this time… and discovered Rare Breed might not be for me.

A few days ago I posted my first blind tasting (3/6), so I decided to keep the experiment going.

I’m studying for WSET Spirits Level 2 and putting together a two-part bourbon tasting for friends. This lineup was my second flight, focused on different producers, proofs, and production choices.

The lineup:
- Wild Turkey 101
- Old Forester 100
- Maker’s Mark 101
- Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
- Eagle Rare 10
- Wild Turkey Rare Breed

Same process as last time:

  1. Assigned each bottle a playing card
Gave the cards (and my ego) a few spins in the salad spinner to randomize the pours
  2. Poured everything at once by weight
  3. Let the glasses rest about 15 minutes
  4. Tasted everything neat over about an hour, constantly going back and forth

Final score: 4/6.

I mixed up Maker’s 101 and Old Forester 100. I kept getting a big cherry note and convinced myself it had to be Old Forester. Turns out it was Maker’s.

Biggest surprise

Rare Breed.

I’ve always thought I enjoyed it, or at least I had in the past. Based on how much love it gets here, I expected it to be near the top. Instead, it finished dead last for me.
I picked up a ton of tobacco and dry oak that just wasn’t what I was in the mood for. Maybe I’m finding that higher-proof bourbons just aren’t my preference, or maybe I simply need more experience tasting them.

Favorites

  1. Eagle Rare
  2. Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

Not exactly shocking, but both absolutely delivered. Eagle Rare had the balance I was looking for, while Double Oaked was rich, dessert-like, and easy to identify.

Wild Turkey 101 also impressed me. Fantastic value and one I plan to always have on hand.

Overall, I’m starting to notice patterns in what I enjoy. Rich fruit, caramel, and dessert notes seem to win me over more than heavy oak, tobacco, or intense proof.

Blind tasting record so far: 7/12. Progress! 😄

One caveat: I live in Laos, so my access to bourbon is pretty limited. I’m always happy to hear recommendations, but there’s a decent chance I won’t be able to find them locally 😢

For those of you who love Rare Breed: Is tobacco one of the signature notes you get from it, or am I just picking up something unusual? And if I tend to prefer Eagle Rare and Woodford Double Oaked, what should I keep an eye out for if I happen to come across it?

A fine addition to my collection

$119 in ME. First time seeing it here so I felt like it was worth it. Definitely my favorite OF so far! Kinda dry mouthfeel but still sweet up front. Oaky, nutty, vanilla, Christmas spices, sugar cookie dough. Not a lot of cherry. Fairly average length and spicy finish. Well worth it

The Haul this Weekend

All pre tax (Wa liquor tax hurts too much to add it here)
EHT BP $130
Woodinville Toasted Apple $48
Thomas Handy $250
Old Fitzgerald 10 $230
Stagg 26B $73
Pretty amazing haul for Seattle’s bourbon market. Very few allocations and even fewer for anything less than full secondary

Eagle Rare

I cracked open a new bottle of eagle rare and wanted to read the label, I compared it to another bottle and noticed they changed the label a bit. 2 on the left were bought in Las Vegas NV and the other was bought in Thatcher AZ

Having graduated my Master's Magna Cum Laude, I decided to try a nicer whisky as a complete beginner and went for a bottle of Lagavulin 16 per so many recommendations!

It was an unexpected experience. I stil am surprised that my four first whiffs brought four different, yet equally pungent odors. You must understand that as a beer enthusiast, nothing could have prepared me, no amount of words read would have sufficed.

I'm glad I chose this because if this is entry-level peated, my face would have melted had I gone the Uigeadail way, which I was about to.

Overall I'm glad I went for this. I'm not going to be a big whisky drinker, and definitely not a peated whisky drinker, but I look forward to having this bottle on my shelf for big occasions. I don't dislike it at all!

Pouring some Mitcher's barrel strength rye on this Sunday. This is definitely my favorite bottle in the mitcher's lineup. At 111 proof its a nice easy sipper. Cheers everyone 🥃🥃

What's everyone pouring?

Bourbon hunting in Savannah/Hilton Head

Heading down to Savannah and Hilton Head for a week and i was wondering if anyone knows of some good places to check out for either great store picks or hard to find stuff? There are so many choices of liquor stores i need to narrow it down. Staying in Pooler a night, then into Savannah and ending in HH. I would greatly appreciate any insight. Thanks!

What’s one whiskey you said holy shit after the first sip?

I love drinking whiskey but I usually just pick up whatever’s available. What’s the one whiskey that made you realize you hadn’t really been drinking whiskey before?

Sharing a pour of Found North Batch 09, 12, and Hell Diver 15yr, what order to taste them?

Got these three bottles and sharing a pour with a friend over dinner, trying to figure out the best tasting order. Thinking of doing the Hell Diver, then the 12, and the 9 to finish. Thoughts?

The newest Springbank 12 Cask Strength (Batch 29 / January 2026) sells for 99€/113 USD in my local supermarket. 100% bourbon matured. Has anyone tried it? Is it an automatic purchase at that price?
