Worth the price?
Definitely thinking about grabbing the Russell’s. Hear good things about Star Hill. Is $200 a good price?

First pour and I love it. Still think full proof is better but this isn’t far behind.
Going to Sandusky next weekend for some waterpark fun with the family. Any good stores up that way and any that get deliveries on Friday/Saturday?
I’ve never had Russell’s 13 so this is in no way me making a judgement on how good these bottles are. What I’m curious about is why they seem to get a pass in the bourbon community with their pretty drastic price hikes over the last handful of years. As with most things there’s a balance to strike in “getting what you paid for”. But I’ve seen plenty of people going nuclear over $5-$10 price increases from other distilleries but this never seems to be mentioned (unless I’m just missing those posts/comments). I’m sure it’s a great pour. But why is there no outrage over more than 2xing the msrp in a 5 year time period?
What are you smoking?
I’m not saying this is a hard and fast rule for me but anything under 100 proof tends to be just too thin and mellow for me. Not saying I don’t have some that I really enjoy. It’s just gotta really make up for it elsewhere or I don’t tend to like it much. Under 90 proof and I’m gonna be hard pressed to even consider it. I think my sweet spot is somewhere between 105 and 125. When you’re considering a bourbon you haven’t tried before what proof point range do you stick with?
What did you get and which one are you most excited about? I got a bunch of Weller full proof, a Weller single barrel, and a couple Staggs. Couldn’t be happier. Im most excited for the Weller full proofs. It’s my favorite pour so having enough to drink it more regularly is a great feeling.
I really wasn’t impressed with the neck pour when this was first cracked. This is my second pour and it’s opened up greatly and is much much better. How are you guys liking this bottle over time?
Happy I was able to get both but judging by the fact that there was literally only one other person there when the store opened I’m thinking not a lot of people were interested in these lol. Either way I’m excited to give them a try (especially the WT Rye). Anyone else grab these this morning or just me?
Hey everyone.
Some background:
After some ectopic pregnancies that cost my wife (38) both of her fallopian tubes they found a tumor on one of her ovaries. They removed both the tumor and the ovary and confirmed it was cancer. This was 1-2 years ago. Recently her bloodwork came back with elevated cancer markers again and a nodule was discovered on her other ovary. She met with her oncologist today and they are recommending a full hysterectomy. We already couldn’t have kids due to previous surgeries but I’m sure this is going to still rile up those emotions. As well as fear and many other things. None of the women on either side of our family have had a hysterectomy so I don’t really have anyone to ask advice from.
I was hoping to get some pointers on what to be prepared for, how I can best help her as she transitions into this new chapter in her life, advice on menopause and what we can expect and how I can best help her with that? I’m flying in the dark here and hoping for some advice from ladies who have been there and done that.
Thanks all.
Excited to give this a try. Passed up on it a couple times at above msrp. Thankfully they are finally starting to find their way around Pennsylvania.
They aren’t rare unless you live in my state and neighboring states. Best I found it for before this was $120 which is dumb. Was finally able to snag it at msrp and man it’s such a good pour. WT12 is still my favorite WT but this is right up there for sure. Maybe it’ll finally start to be shelf stable at some point and if that’s the case then my bar will always have 1-2.
Was able to score one of the OHLQ Old Forester picks that just dropped and had a buddy find me a Wild Turkey 8yr in KY at msrp. Excited to try them both but especially excited about the Old Forester. Never had one of these bottles that wasn’t amazing.
I’ve been a 4 iron guy all my life. Have plenty of speed to continue to hit them but it feels so limited in use. I only pull it on the tee or if I’m in a perfect lie in the fairway. Even then the flight tends to be lower and more penetrating (which is occasionally what I want). Been interested in something higher launching so it will land and hold on greens. Enter the 7 wood into the chat (ping g440). Might be one of the easiest clubs to hit in my bag now. Honestly it feels like hitting a pitching wedge. Just smack down on it and it launches high, great spin numbers, decent angle to die for, stops quick. Wish I would have made the change sooner.
My wife snagged this for me a few years ago. Was wanting something nice to go along with my cigar and bourbon hobbies. Never thought it was possible to enjoy a lighter as much as I do this one. It’s older but in such a classy and timeless way. Every time I bring it out it starts a conversation with whoever I’m with. Needs a good polish but otherwise it just keeps working year after year with no issues or problems. Can’t remember what she paid for it but it came with everything. All the paperwork and cards. Will be a nice piece to hand down to my son in a few decades. Obviously ST Dupont is still making this lighter but do the old ones hold their value well?
I have an anniversary coming up (relatively) soon. I’m trying to figure out which watch I want to get next to celebrate the occasion. I think, right now, I’m down to either a Speedy Moonwatch or a BB58 GMT on the jubilee bracelet. I have a vintage Rolex OP Date and a BB58 on an Oyster bracelet. I’m a really big fan of Tudor but a Speedy Moonwatch has always been a “bucket list” watch for me. If the BB58 GMT was around when I got my BB58 I would have got that instead (that’s not to say I dislike my watch just would have preferred the GMT). Im probably leaning more towards the Speedy to avoid too much crossover between the GMT and what I already have. But on the same hand the GMT is super appealing to me. Which would you choose between the two or is there another watch you’d recommend? A Rolex Submariner has always been a bucket list watch as well but honestly I’ve become a little disenchanted with it due to the games that must be played to acquire one. Maybe I’ll get there one day. But for now, that’s further down the road.
