I got tired of finding houses through WhatsApp groups, so I built a Malawian property app 🇲🇼
Hi everyone,
Over the past few months I've been building Kwathu, a property app made specifically for Malawi.
Like many people, I noticed that most houses are advertised in scattered WhatsApp groups or on Facebook, making it difficult to search, compare, or know whether a listing is genuine.
I know Malawi already has property websites, and they serve an important purpose. Kwathu isn't trying to replace them simply because it's an app. The goal is to make the entire property search experience easier and more interactive.
Some of the features include:
Buy, rent and sell properties
Verified landlords through identity verification to help reduce scams.
Property alerts that notify you instantly when a property matching your preferences is listed.
Tenant property requests, allowing tenants to post what they're looking for so landlords can contact them directly
Viewing bookings.
In-app messaging between landlords and tenants
Landlord Pro analytics showing listing views, contact requests and viewing bookings.
Agent profiles and business tools for estate agents
Secure payment features currently being developed
Rather than just listing properties, I'm trying to build a platform that helps people throughout the entire process of finding, renting, buying and managing property.
I'd genuinely appreciate your feedback.
What frustrates you most when looking for a house in Malawi?
What feature would make you use an app like this?
Is there anything you think existing property websites or apps are missing?
If anyone is interested in trying it, I'm happy to share the download link in the comments. Your feedback will help shape future updates.
