Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar, who stopped his co-pilot from crashing a FlyDubai flight full of passengers into the ground, is being publicly honored in Tel Aviv
On 30 September 2026, FlyDubai flight FZ1073 (Dubai → Tel Aviv) was carrying 174 passengers, mostly Israelis.Mid-flight, the co-pilot allegedly stabbed Captain Smit Machchhar in an attempt to crash the plane.Despite being seriously injured, Captain Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door. Passengers and crew then overpowered the attacker. The flight was safely diverted to Saudi Arabia.Israel has been publicly thanking him ever since. Prime Minister Netanyahu called him a “true hero.” There are now billboards and events in Tel Aviv (and even in Mumbai) celebrating him. This is one of those rare moments where an Indian pilot’s courage is being celebrated so openly in Israel. What are your thoughts?
