Commuting to uni & social life
I'm not sure if this is the right sub-reddit to post this on so if anyone could give me any pointers if this is not the right one, that would be great.
Anyway, I'm starting university in September and have firmed the University of Bath. I have decided it would be better (mainly financially) for me to commute to Bath, as I live in Bristol (40 minutes - 1 hour drive), however this makes me quite nervous for the social life.
I have always not been very good at making friends, I'm not extremely socially anxious but around new people I find it difficult to come up with a topic of conversation that actually deepens the friendship. I know people make bonds for life in university and I'm worried that I'm not going to make those friends because I'll be away from campus and not have the same opportunities as others to make friends.
I'm not very sporty, so if I do join any sports societies it'll be as a complete beginner and that does scare me a bit. I have other hobbies though, e.g. reading, knitting (I know, very grandma of me) so I will try to join those societies.
If anyone with experience of commuting could give some advice or share their experience, I would be so grateful.
