Windshield Gap

Windshield Gap

Is the gap between the top of the windshield and the top of the car normal in this picture?

The Volvo dealership replaced the windshield on my 2026 XC60 PE a couple days ago. I removed the tape that is placed at the top of the windshield today and noticed the gap between the glass and the top of the car. Prior to today, I have never paid any attention to the gap, and now I see it every time I get close to the car.

So, can someone with an XC60 let me know if their vehicle also has this wide of a gap.

First 90 Days

Three months ago, I posted a review of my first 48 hours with my 2026 XC60 Polestar Engineered (white with 21 inch wheels), and I decided I would do another one based on the first 90 days. I traded in my 2023 Audi Q5 PHEV S-Line for the XC60, and I still do not have any regrets. There are things I really like and things I don’t really like about my car. I have also spent money on small upgrades and one unexpected expense for repairs.

What I like:

The range of the EV battery is more than enough for a round trip to and from work, which is 34.4 miles. The official range of the EV battery is supposed to be 35 miles, but I am getting between 43 and 47 estimated miles on a full charge. The higher end of the range is during the workweek when my average speed is about 40 miles per hour due to traffic. The lower end of the range is on the weekends, when there is less traffic and I get to drive between 60 and 70 miles per hour. Even at highway speeds, the projected EV range and actual range are usually within 2 to 3 miles.

I have used gas a few times over the past three months, but the tank is currently 73% full. This is great with current gas prices. I normally fill up when I get to half a tank, and if I continue to drive the way I do, I should be able to go another three months before I fill up. As of right now, my electric bill has not increased, so charging the EV battery every day is cheaper than buying gas.

What I don’t like:

Issues with sensors. As of this post, the collision avoidance system has stopped working 5 times, the driver’s side vehicle detection light lit up when there were no other cars on the road one time, and a few days later, the light did not turn on when there was a car in my blind spot. I keep my car clean at all times, so the sensors are not dirty. The issues with the collision avoidance system would last either a few minutes or overnight. I did schedule an appointment with the dealership to get the sensors checked out, but I got sick on the day I was supposed to take it in and canceled it. I have not rescheduled the appointment, but I am keeping track of all these issues.

I came across a post here on Reddit where a few Volvo owners wrote about times when they rear‑ended a car or backed into something. Reading these posts makes me think the sensors are not reliable. Maybe this is why Volvo focuses so much on building a vehicle that can protect the occupants when an accident happens, because the systems that are supposed to prevent the accident do not always work.

No sound. I had one issue with no sound at all from the infotainment or the turn signals. I am not sure if this is an infotainment issue, but after turning the car off and on again, the infotainment system looked like it went through an auto‑restart process. All sounds worked fine afterward. This issue only happened once, and I hope it is not the start of issues with the system.

Upgrades:

Texas state legal ceramic tint on the front windows and 70% ceramic tint on the windshield.  The windshield tint reduces the heat coming into the car and the AC does not have to work so hard to keep the car cool.

Sun shade from Amazon.  Even with the tint on the windshield, it does not prevent heat from building up inside the car when I park it in the sun all day.

Infotainment screen protector from Amazon

Armrest cover from Amazon to prevent oils from my arm and my passenger’s arm from staining the material.

Apple CarPlay adapter from Amazon. While this does enable wireless CarPlay, I only used it for a few days.  I only use CarPlay for music, phone calls, texting, and navigation.  I can listen to music via bluetooth and do everything else via the apps on the infotainment system.  Therefore, I don’t really need the CarPlay adapter.

Luggage cover from FCP Euro, part # 32205899 AND part # 32239016.  I could have added this to the vehicle configuration when I ordered it, but I did not want to spend $450. I looked for aftermarket options and found one on Amazon, but a Volvo owner wrote a review stating the cover alone does not fully cover the luggage area.  I did some research on this and found out that two pieces are required to fully cover the area.  Because of this, I decided to go with the OEM cover and I got both pieces at a lesser price at $356 through FCP Euro.

Front and rear mud flaps from Volvo Dealer Accessories, part # 31435991 and part # 31435990.  This is another item I decided to not order with the vehicle due to price.  Volvo wanted $245 and I got the OEM parts from Volvo Dealer Accessories for $171.  The flaps are easy to install.  The rear flaps come with a rivet that goes towards the bottom of the flap, but I did not install it.  The screws alone are holding the rear flaps in place.  This is a link to the instructions if anyone wants to look at it.

IYILO 40A EV charger from Amazon.  I had a Jukebox charger that became a dummy charger after the company stopped doing business in the US.  This was not an issue with the Audi, because I could schedule charging via the Audi app.  I can’t do this with the Volvo app. The 20-foot cable also did not reach the charging port when I park in reverse in my garage.  The IYILO has a 25-foot cable and schedule charging works very well.

Polestar Engineered puddle lights from Custom Puddle Lights.  I saw another Volvo owner post pics of his custom puddle lights and he received mostly negative comments about it.  So, I know this upgrade will not be for everyone, but I like it.  These lights cost me $275 because I had to submit a custom order.  This design was not on the company’s list of designs that they normally sell.

White key fob cover from Amazon.  Just because I wanted the key fob to match the color of the car.

Unexpected expense:

I have a folding portable workbench that is leaning on the wall next to the car. This workbench has been leaning on the wall for quite some time now, and I never had any issues with it falling. Well, two weeks ago, it somehow fell forward and hit the rear driver’s door. The sharp metal edges of the workbench chipped the paint in two spots. I bought everything needed to touch up the paint, watched a few videos on how to do it, but decided to take it to a body shop. Even if I did a good job with the touch‑up, it would not be 100% perfect, and it would have driven me crazy. I filed a claim with my insurance company and paid $500 for the deductible. The final cost to repair this was $2,541. I am waiting to see how the body shop will report this to Carfax, since everything is reported these days. Even the tint job was reported to Carfax.

So that’s it for the first 90 days. I do not plan on doing another one of these, but I may post updates about issues with the sensors if things get worse.

I will end this post with things I would like to see in the next‑generation XC60 PE, if there is going to be one here in the US.

More “eye candy” — puddle lights from the factory, Volvo illuminated door sills, color lights inside the cabin, something other than a map on the gauge cluster… things that prevent me from feeling like I am in a room with four white walls, a fancy vase in the center, and a picture frame hanging on the wall.

The PE version should have more power than the Ultra. The Audi Q5 S-Line and Lexus 450h F Sport (two cars I think are competitors to the XC60 PE) both have more power over the lower‑level trims.
