[Forever] I made SlangSight to help new players understand chat slang — v0.1.6 is now available

Hey everyone!

I’m playing WoW for the first time, and one of the things I struggled with was understanding chat. Messages full of abbreviations like BRD, LFM, PST and MS>OS left me searching online just to understand what people were saying.

That’s why I created SlangSight, with new and returning players in mind.

Hover over a supported term directly in chat to see its meaning, explanation and, where available, a usage example. No need to open another window or leave the game.

v0.1.6 is now available, featuring:

  • 535 glossary entries covering groups, dungeons, raids, classes, loot, professions and more.
  • 171 usage examples to help explain how terms are used.
  • 39 new terms, including dungeon runs, loot rules and Classic build abbreviations.
  • Expanded explanations for terms with multiple meanings.
  • Improved hover detection, making longer phrases and smaller words easier to read.

The project is still in early development and has been tested on WoW Forever. I’m also planning features such as explaining whole chat messages and using context to help distinguish ambiguous abbreviations.

I’d really appreciate anyone trying it and sharing feedback! Are there important terms missing, confusing explanations, or bugs you’ve noticed? Suggestions from experienced players would help make it more useful for beginners like me.
