Taking a Drop After 99.5%ile & ~12k Rank in Advanced — What Should I NOT Do?

I'm planning to take a drop for JEE 2027 and wanted some honest advice from people who've been through it.

My stats:

• JEE Main 2026: 99.5 percentile
• JEE Advanced 2026: ~124 marks (62P / 22C / 40M)
• JA 12k

I know I underperformed in Advanced, especially Chemistry. During the exam I made quite a few mistakes(0.04 etc😭) and didn't perform anywhere near my expectations.

My goal for next year is AIR < 2000.

A few questions:

  1. What are the biggest mistakes people make during a drop year?
  2. What should I absolutely avoid doing?
  3. How should someone at my level approach Advanced prep differently from a first-time aspirant?
  4. Any book/material suggestions? (Already have a decent foundation due to 99.5 in Mains. Ive solved pathfinder completely so suggest any other book for phy)
  5. How would you improve Chemistry from this position?

I'm looking for practical advice from droppers, seniors, and anyone who has made a significant rank jump. Feel free to be brutally honest.

Thanks!
