A family group having a barbecue next to the river in Grassington.

Took a trip out to Grassington this afternoon and decided to cross the stepping stones near the church at Linton. A large noisy family group were having a barbecue by the river, actually on the pebbly bit of the river rather than on the grass. Very obvious by the smell and smoke, kids also noisy so you couldn’t miss them even if you didn’t notice the barbecue. They seemed absolutely oblivious. We‘d noticed the signs forbidding barbies at the start of the walk, debated reporting it but realised we weren‘t sure who to ring at that point and whether we‘d just look like foolish busy bodies. There were also numerous other walkers passing by who can‘t have missed them and possibly had taken action. Any advice what we should have done for next time ? We actually had a look round for someone in the info centre at the car park and struggled to find anybody.

Why doesn‘t the BBC make more of its plays available to listen to on IPlayer ?

Love listening to a good old BBC drama when I’m doing the household chores and invariably turn to YouTube or Internet archive for a better selection. Surely the BBC would be onto a winner if it opened up its archive, just wondered why it doesn‘t, maybe copyright or something ?

How on earth is Badenoch being rehabilitated as a decent prospective PM ?

We‘d be at war with Iran and entangled with Trump.

She‘s essentially denying climate change, pretty ironic as we‘re in the midst of our second extreme heatwave and bits of Europe are burning. How on earth can anyone tout her as a sensible person.

Around 23% of all properties in Whitby are second homes, 38% in Sandsend.

Was quite shocked by this figure tbh. At what point does it become a bad thing ? I know some similar places on the south coast have gone the same way and completely lost their character. Do you think Whitby will end up just a disneyfied dracula theme park as the locals sell up ? So many people seem to love the place from literally all over the country.

Lovely 1/2 day at Bempton cliffs.

Can thoroughly recommend. Saw loads of different sea birds and 2 puffins, cracking cliff top walks. Try to get there fairly early on a weekend. Opens at 9:30am I believe, we got there just before 10am and we were the last to get a spot in the car park. There are also guided walks and a boat trip run from Bridlington etc but they were all sold out for months in advance.

If you were planning to do a 2 week road trip along the Baltic coast of Germany, which are the most interesting towns to visit ?

Would fly into Hamburg, then visit Lübeck for a day or two. I can’t work out which towns after that. l like architecture, especially Hanseatic stuff, but also museums, art, cafes etc.

I was thinking Stralsund, Wismar, Rostock or maybe Greifswald ? Even head inland possibly.
I‘ve read that towns in the east tend to be better preserved historically which makes them more attractive in some respects. Years ago I travelled to Gdansk on the bus from England and was fascinated by the eastern bit of Germany, the landscape seemed so untouched and the little villages far more traditionally german looking and different from the places I‘d visited in NRW, Sauerland, Saarland etc Any ideas ? Tia !
