What are your favorite bits of excessively elaborate moments of animation?
Basically, any moment of animation in the series, even if it was for a few seconds, even if it was for a throwaway gag, that took your breath away with how detailed and elaborate they were. Mine, in no particular order, are:
The 360-degree whip pan in the “The Shinning” segment of Treehouse of Horror V that reveals “No TV And No Beer Make Homer Go Crazy” scrawled on the walls.
Homer combining pop rocks and soda, tossing it like
a frag grenade in “Homer Badman”.
The gorgeous shot of Legs attempting to make a Manhattan in “Bart the Murderer”.
What do you guys think Reverend Lovejoy did to get on the no-checks list?
I’m betting it was something either extremely embarrassing or really heinous and unbefitting of his cummerbund.
When you’re trying to encourage the children to tidy up their room.

Who were the best guest stars, in your opinion, that were willing to take pot shots at themselves?
Basically that. Who were the best guest stars of the series willing to get as goofy as the plot demanded, or willing to take pot shots at themselves, or some combination of the two? My nominees would be everyone in the episode “Homer at the Bat”, and Jackie Mason as Rabbi Hyman Krustofski (“The Jackie Mason? I dunno, sauerkraut makes me gassy.”)
“In*sol*vent?” “Whaddaya *mean* the bank’s out of money?”
