Co-op ODSP

I am currently a full-time university student, and my parent receives ODSP. I understand that a dependent adult’s earnings can be exempt while they are attending post-secondary school full-time or are in an approved training program.

I may have a potential work opportunity that could require me to take a one-year leave from classes. I would not be permanently withdrawing from my university program—I would plan to return and finish my degree afterward. A lot of students at my school do this and I do not care about the income (up to it covers my cost) but the work experience I would gain potentially working at a startup.

Would ODSP still treat my income as exempt during that leave because I am still technically enrolled in the program and have not withdrawn? Or would the exemption stop because I would not be actively taking classes full-time that year? Would I need to take a "co-op" class for that exemption to not apply anymore?

I am trying to understand this before making any decisions. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation or received clarification from ODSP about a formal leave of absence?

Social Science Co-Op program

It says the social science co-op program is allowed as early as your second year after summer. I am curious, If I choose to take a year off to get work experience starting my second year, would they make an exception. I am just making anticipation for a potential opportunity that could come my way for a potential startup in the United States, and I would want to make sure if it would be possible to get an exception and enroll in co-op early (summer after 1st year rather than 2nd year). The reason I need to enroll in co-op is because my parent is on ODSP, and ODSP says they would only exempt my income earned from this venture as long as it counts as an "approved training program" from my school, which would mean it has to be co-op. They have a policy that you have to be enrolled in uniuversity for earnings over that time to be exempt.

CDCP QUESTION Uni student

I’m a university student and I applied for CDCP in late 2025 because I needed dental work done and my school’s optional dental plan enrollment had already closed by the time I tried to sign up. Since I couldn’t enroll anymore, I didn’t have active private dental coverage.

So far I’ve only used CDCP for consultations and a couple cleanings, but I still need wisdom teeth removal.

I’m wondering if getting the wisdom teeth procedure covered through CDCP could create any issues later if eligibility is reviewed, considering the university plan technically existed but I was unable to enroll in it at the time.

Has anyone dealt with something similar as a student? Ontario
