Would a better campus bus app be useful here?

Hello everyone!

I am a student at Georgia Tech, and after getting frustrated with our outdated bus app, I built a Google maps style app for my campus buses. I want to ask if something like this would be useful at Emory.

The app used by Georgia Tech (TransLoc) is difficult to use, has inaccurate ETAs, provides no bus directions to a destination, and sometimes shows incorrect route lines during construction/events.

The app I developed fixes these problems by

  • Using a Google maps style interface
  • Predicting ETAs using historical data
  • Providing bus directions like Google Maps
  • Automatically updating route lines during construction/events

Right now it’s a web app, but I am also working on iOS and Android versions.

Would something like this be useful here? Also, what problems do you have with your bus app/system?

I made a Google Maps style app for my campus

My university (Georgia Tech) relies on an extremely outdated app for the bus system. The ETAs are always wrong (saying 2min left for the next 10 min) and requires you to look through a bunch of route lines to know where to get on and off. Recently, the route lines were also incorrect for almost 6 weeks because they were not updated to reflect the new routes caused by construction.

To fix this, I built Bus Forecast which

  • Accurately predicts ETAs using historical data
  • Provides bus directions like Google Maps
  • Automatically updates route lines if there is construction/events

I would love to hear your feedback, especially if you've dealt with bad campus transit systems. Also, if you know any university that can benefit from this, please let me know!

It only supports Georgia Tech buses for now, but the website is open to explore: https://busforecast.app

For comparison, this is Georgia Tech's original website for buses: https://bus.gatech.edu/routes
