Fulbright ETA (SE Asia) v job
Know there's been similar posts here but would appreciate some advice.
Quick background: Two years out of college, recently started a job that aligns quite well with my interests. The role isn't perfect but the industry feels right and I thought I could shape the scope over time.
The complication: I was awarded a Fulbright ETA in Southeast Asia. Applied multiple times. Don't have a strong draw to teaching English specifically but still feels like one of those YOLO things. So part of the question is if I want to go abroad eventually - which I do - is now the right time and is this the right way?
The case for declining that I keep coming back to: teaching feels orthogonal to what I'm building toward long term. I don't want to become a teacher, don't think I "need" grad school, and think the current role I have now is either close to what I'd want to return to and/or sets me up for more of what I want.
I would love some insight from ETA alums or just Fulbrighters in general on what to do. Not looking for "only you can decide." did ETAs without a strong teaching draw still find the year worth it? Looking for honest takes from people who've been close to this choice.
