I got these bird band pliers (same as picture) from american bird band & a band for my pigeon, but I'm very scared I might close it too tight. 8mm is slightly loose but I'm afraid I might accidentally do something wrong.

How should I go about this? (tips appreciated, or experiences with banding)

I'm not very strong so I'm afraid it'll be like really hard to close but then all the sudden it'll be too easy to close and I accdientally shut it too tight. <- my biggest fear in this situation
