Fog is such a proud father ❤️

Y'all are going to get tired off me posting these tiny gremlins, but this little family is too adorable. Even if Mama Dove *does* have a mean wing slap if she's on nest duty when I check on the bebes.

Fog was coming back to the nest when I looked in on them earlier, and he stayed back and waited a little to let me get a quick pet in! I got one warning wing lift, but he settled when I started talking to him. Pretty sure Dove wouldn't have been so accommodating 😅 He moved towards the nest again after a minute, and I stopped petting so he could climb in and start lunch time lol.

The pidgelets are obviously going to grow up comfortable with humans, and I think Fog and I are developing a decent relationship. I have a feeling Dove is going to be one that would rather not acknowledge me unless she needs me for something, but that's fine. I have a budgie hen who feels that way. Two years with me has done nothing to change her mind that I'm a below stairs servant lmao

Who needs air conditioning when you have a pigeon?

Blue having zoomies this morning, very flappy boi (Melly is hiding in the cube)

Blue would like you to know that he is very mighty, fearsome and definitely scaring off his own dad in this argument.

At least, he thinks he’s winning an argument over Snowy & ‘Papa Boxgeon’ (Blue’s dad). I don’t think they’re even aware he exists but don’t tell him that.

Meet Onyx

I rescued Onyx around a year and 4 months ago. He’s been my best friend and been with me through a lot. He’s always been such an awesome sidekick. I finally was able to take a nice photo of him so I thought I’d share. He has some sort of fancy breed in him as you can tell by his muffs on his feet.

Blue would also like you to know that he is King of this Castle; Protector of his darling Melly.

Pibbin would like to come out as well but he’ll have to wait his turn has he & Blue like to fight.

Pigeon Found (UK)

Found this pigeon behind my house, three different coloured tags on its legs. It's been here for a few hours and yet to fly away but slowly backs off when I get close. Just a bit concerned as it's currently pouring it down with rain, I've erected a little shelter but idk if somethings wrong or what to do with this little guy.

Melly dropping by to see what I’m up to.

Taking a break from egg duty she’s come to say hello. I’m glad she feels comfortable to be around me, even if she’s very skittish and will flee if you make even the smallest movement.

I don’t get to take close up videos of her outside her cube too often. Once I receive an email she’s all AH! ESCAPE! SCARY SOUND!

Pigeons in apartments + pigeons with dogs?

So I want to begin by saying I do not have a pigeon. I really, REALLY want a pigeon and have my whole life though. I had birds as a kid, budgies and finches, but I don’t have them anymore and didn’t become especially close with either. Smaller birds just aren’t what I want, I suppose.

I’ve always asked for a pigeon but my mother doesn’t like pigeons so she refused. Well- now I’m 20, looking into finding my own apartment this next Summer, and I want a damn pigeon! I live in a city while attending uni and it’s just made me want a pigeon more.

However, I have two main concerns. One is that an apartment might be small, though I intend on allowing it to be fully free roaming and house trained so I’m hoping it’s less of an issue then. And my second concern is my dog.

My dog is a small Maltese/GSP mix, having taken most of his looks and behavior from his Maltese parent, but he does freak out over finches and squirrels. I can’t say if it’s in an aggressive way as he’s never actually caught a bird or squirrel, but he barks and lunges. He currently lives at home and has never seen a pigeon, so I have no idea how he’d react to a larger bird, but if I got an apartment him living with me is a non-negotiable. He’s lived with a number of cats throughout my life, including a kitten he’s living with now, and he’s fine with them- though he does enjoy chasing the kitten from time to time. I’m worried if I got a free roaming pigeon he’d make an enemy of it.

So I guess I’m wondering about your experiences keeping pigeons in apartments and alongside small dogs, and if you all think it’d be a good idea.

Temporary shelter for white birdie

So found this fellow today close to my home. Did not try to fly away and was obviously looking for food. Obviously not a wild animal. The local animal service will pick them up tomorrow, until then all I could offer was a box (bigger than on the photo) with a fabric on top, sunflower seeds, nuts and cereals and water.
If any pigeon experts can offer suggestions how to make it more comfortable for that bird I am all open ears. Myself has no experience with birds, don't even dare to really pick it up again to check closely for a ring (feet itself are very feathered) because I'd be afraid to hurt the bird.

Why does my pidgey love doing this?

My pigeon, Peep, is about 4.5 months old now and absolutely LOVES to have his head and neck covered by my hand. He dips low in excitement for it and once my hand is over him he coo’s like crazy. Is there a reason for this?

How do I get them to love eachother

So my pet pigeon little man I’ve had since he was a baby and he’s super tame, but a little too attached aka mounting and general hormonal behavior so I got him a girl who seems about full grown and he has been nipping and chasing and cooing a ton and she’s only eating once little man was removed from the area she is in what do I do?

Strange noise

What is this noise?? She seems fine otherwise, she just starts doing this sometimes. It'll last a few min and then stop. It started about 15min after she last ate anything.

Their eyes are open!

My accidental clutch are growing nicely, and they are so stinking cute. I checked on them when Fog and Dove were downstairs eating and got a few photos. Their eyes are opening! And they're not quite so wobbly, and getting bigger fast. Fog and Dove are doing a great job.

She's still a sneaky wench, though 😂❤️

Releasing pigeons discussion

to people who would pick up an injured pigeon and drop to a rehabilitation center, do you think they care to release the pigeon after healing to its original area?
i am wondering about this as i have seen some cases where the rehabilitation centre never cared about the original spot where i have found the pigeon, this makes me feel guilty as i know how pigeon are attached to partners and live safely within their own flock ...

We're getting a new harness for the boys because the old one was much too small.. I feel so guilty

Now that I look at this picture I just feel terrible. I don't know how I didn't realize that it was too small, I thought he was just having trouble balancing because every time I took him outside he acted super happy, and he never had an issue with me actually putting it on. Never put up a fight, just came to me when he saw me get it out. But I know now that that body language actually meant he was uncomfortable even through his excitement.

Let this be a warning and a lesson, your pigeon should not be hunched over or upset, even for a little bit, unless it's literally your first time ever putting it on them. If they do this, even after you've done it a bunch of times and they should be used to it, it means something is wrong. Always get a properly sized harness. Don't do what I did.

Luckily my boy still loves going outside, and doesn't mind harnesses. But we're getting a much more comfortable one now that should be here in about a week :)
