I made a glowing skull diorama which pulls weather data and glows a color based on the temperature outside

The skull is powered by an ESP32 and an array of addressable RGB LED lights. It pulls weather data from OpenWeatherAPI and glows the color of the temperature outside. Cooler temperatures are cooler colors, warmer temperatures are warmer colors. When it's precipitating outside (rain/snow), the skull will slowly pulse in and out of the color pertaining to the correct temperature. And when there's a severe weather alert, it flashes red. (The flashing purple means that it's in setup mode, it becomes a wi-fi hotspot you can connect to to set the wireless network, password, and zip code for the weather data.)

I decorated the diorama with moss and tiny headstones.

This was a gift for a friend, I'm happy with how it came out. I hope you like it!

Looking for a gun range near Woodbridge that's NOT Sharpshooters

Hi! I was wondering if the community could recommend a good gun range for next weekend. I've only been to Sharpshooters in Lorton but I hate how crowded it is and there's no where to wait for your range time. Would love some suggestions near Woodbridge from experienced gun range visitors. Thank you!

I just found out that my employer of seventeen years will almost certainly be shutting down. I'm an ASP.NET Webforms and SQL expert. How totally fucked am I?

Between the obsolescence of my technology, AI, and the glut of unemployed programmers from DOGE layoffs, where do I place between being marketable for a new position and eating a bullet do I realistically fall?

The Quantum Cola display I made my husband for his birthday

Used two boxes from Michael's and stained and weathered them and wood glued them together. Made the logo displays in Photoshop. For the bottle I used an empty glass Coke hottle and filled it with translucent blue acrylic and put a blue LED disc underneath.

For the caps I went to a local brewery supply store and bought some up, then printed out a sheet of cap covers and cut them out using a circle tool and an X-Acto knife.

Finally, I slightly weathered everything to mimic being in the wasteland.

Hope you like it!

My Husband's Fallout Costume

Just finished this last night. It's a mash up of the series costume and Pip boy with his favorite game, Fallout 3. Leather sourced, made, and weathered by me. Hope you like it!

The final product. The radio has the music from Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Vault-Tec radio which is instrumental music from 1940-1960 interspersed with information, PSAs, and alerts from a Vault using AI.

I wanted to share the Fallout inspired radio that I made. I found this old clock radio on eBay and thought it'd be perfect for a Fallout radio.

I cut out the base and added an LCD monitor to a Raspberry Pi which makes the radio possible.

The screen and Raspberry Pi test to make sure it fit within the case.

Had the logo vinyl cut for it, and added the volume and station knobs. The volume switch tells the Pi that the radio is on, and of course controls the volume. The switch changes the station which goes to a listener service on the Pi.

There are four stations:

Galaxy News (Fallout 3)

Diamond City Radio (Fallout 4)

Radio New Vegas (Fallout New Vegas)

and Vault-Tec radio. Vault-Tec Radio is a pretend station that imagines it's broadcasting within a vault to the residents. It plays instrumental music from 1940 to 1960, with an AI announcer in between songs which gives the current time, the vault temperature, water chip status, and warnings about level 13.

It's been a fun project, hope you like it!
