Renting with pets

Has anyone actually managed to rent with pets recently in the UK?

Genuine question because it feels nearly impossible lately.

One thing I noticed while applying is landlords basically have no consistent way to assess pets. You end up sending random photos, references, insurance docs, messages etc across different apps and emails and it all feels messy.

I started putting together a single structured pet profile for applications with things like:

* pet photo + bio

* temperament

* previous landlord reference

* insurance

* microchip details

* supporting documents

Mainly just to make applications look more organised and trustworthy.

Do you think something like that would actually help renters at all, or do landlords simply not care once pets are involved?

Would landlords actually trust a standardised pet profile during rental applications?

I’ve been building a platform called Pawfect after seeing how difficult renting with pets has become in the UK.

One thing that kept coming up was how fragmented the process is.

Landlords receive random photos, messages, PDFs and references spread across different apps, while responsible renters with well-behaved pets struggle to properly present them during applications.

So I built a standardised “Rental-Ready Pet Report”.

The idea is simple:

Create one structured profile landlords and agents can review in minutes instead of trying to piece everything together themselves.

The report can include:

* pet profile + temperament

* house training status

* microchip registration

* pet insurance

* previous landlord references

* supporting information

* emergency pet contact

* verified supporting documents

* rental readiness score

What surprised me most is that two clear pathways started emerging:

  1. Existing pet owners

    People trying to prove they’re responsible tenants with pets.

  2. Future pet requests

    Renters who don’t currently own a pet, but want a structured way to request permission from landlords before getting one.

The more feedback I get, the more it seems many landlords aren’t necessarily anti-pet — they’re anti-uncertainty.

This feels less like “a pet app” and more like a trust layer for renting.

Still very early, but I’d genuinely love honest feedback from landlords, agents and renters:

Would something like this actually help during rental applications?

Would structured pet profiles make you more open to tenants with pets?

A genuine question for landlords and letting agents:

Would you be more open to tenants with pets if there was a structured way to review them upfront?

I’ve been building Pawfect — a platform where renters can create rental-ready pet profiles with things like:

• previous landlord references

• insurance

• training/behaviour info

• supporting documents

• emergency pet contacts

One thing I didn’t expect from the feedback:

A lot of renters actually want landlord permission *before* getting a pet.

So we’ve now added a separate “Future Pet Request” flow for renters who want to demonstrate responsibility upfront before adopting.

The goal isn’t to pressure landlords into accepting pets.

It’s to reduce uncertainty and make the process more transparent for both sides.

Would something like this genuinely help from a landlord or agent perspective, or are there other concerns that matter more?

Would landlords be more open to pets if tenants could provide proper pet references/documents upfront?

I kept seeing the same issue come up around renting with pets — landlords worried about damage/risk, while tenants had no real structured way to present information about their pet during applications.

So I recently built a platform called Pawfect where tenants can create a shareable pet profile including things like:

* Vet records

* Insurance

* Previous landlord references

* Behaviour/training certificates

* Microchip details

The idea isn’t to pressure landlords into accepting pets, but to reduce uncertainty and make the process clearer for both sides.

Would something like this actually make a difference from a renter or landlord perspective?
