I haven’t drawn since high school, but I finally decided to break open a new sketchbook this week. I’m definitely feeling the “art block” and my proportions feel a bit off. I’m really looking for two things: 1. Critique: Specifically on my [shading/anatomy/line work]. What looks “wrong” here that I’m not seeing? 2. Resources: Where are people learning these days? Looking for YouTube channels or courses that focus on [Style, e.g., Realism/Anime/Landscape].

Hey everyone!

I’m a huge Invincible fan and finally decided to try my hand at some comic-style art. This is actually the first time I’ve ever attempted this style .

I used a standard mechanical pencil for the whole thing. I really struggled with getting those deep, heavy shadows you see in Ryan Ottley’s work since the lead is so thin, so I’d love some advice on:

Shading: How do you get better "blacks" or weight with just a mechanical pencil?

Texture: Any tips on making the fur/cape look more realistic?

Anatomy: Does anything look "off" in the proportions?

I’m really looking to improve, so please don't hold back on the feedback! Thanks!
