Why is Kaido not considered part of the "old gen" by so many around here when his pirate career run almost perfectly in parallel with Whitebeard's?

- Whitebeard was a notable pirate some 48 years ago when he joined Rocks, Kaido joined 44 years ago

- Both started their solo journey around the same time following the fall of the Rocks crew. They rose together to become Yonko

- Kaido fell just two years after Whitebeard

I don't understand why he would be associated with Shanks' generation when the latter was not even born yet when Kaido's name as a pirate was well known. The Beast Pirates were already occupying Wano 28 years ago while Shanks was an 11 year old kid on Roger's ship.

People trying to make Kaido relevant to the Imu VS Luffy fight need to actually read the manga

- Luffy was already near death by the time he went Gear 5. He still managed to defeat Kaido in that state.

- Luffy explicitly said that there is no way he can fight Imu without overcharging on energy first. Which is why he spent all that time eating and is only now jumping into the fight while he is "overflowing with strength".

- You cannot compare an enemy Luffy defeated while near death to one he admitted he has no chance against unless he is at optimal conditions.

Isn't the fact that Kaido was about to lose this battle a bit embarrassing?

11 Samurai VS 1000 pirates including King and Queen and dude still needed to rely on emotional manipulation to win after fighting for so long the forest was burned to the ground.

Question for the possessed Saturn is unbeatable people: By what logic is Imu capable of making his host completely invulnerable when it has been made clear that strong enough CoC can overcome even the CoC protection of immortals?

Is a Gorosei possessed by Imu the ultimate life form completely undamaged and impervious to CoC or did the God Valley gang's attacks simply lack the level of haki necessary to overcome it?

Is Kizaru VS Luffy is only example of a "neg diff" fight? It's the only battle I can't think of where the fighter that was explicitly trying to lose ended up winning?

How solid was the balance of power? How many Yonko crews would it take to defeat Marine HQ + the Shichibukai in an all out war? Could it even be done?

https://preview.redd.it/guddahtfa35h1.png?width=378&format=png&auto=webp&s=2a3cdefa18e00bb7b9b112347ec9496f60899cbf

Balance of power is all about making sure each faction understands that attacking another one would leave them, even in the case of victory, too weakened to be worth the gamble thus forcing everyone into maintaining a delicate status quo while more subtly building their forces.

The first time we are introduced to the balance of power in One Piece, the context was the danger a meeting between Whitebeard and Shanks could have on the equilibrium.

We know from the Marineford War that the Whitebeard Pirates alone ultimately were no match for the Navy and Warlords even with the help of the Impel Down escapees, the treason or lack of cooperation from several Warlords and the general chaos brought by the Blackbeard pirates.

Let's imagine a scenario involving all the great powers as they were at the very start of the series:

- Sengoku is an active Marine as the Fleet Admiral

- The Admirals are Aokiji, Kizaru and Akainu

- The Pacifistas don't exist

- The Shichibukai are Mihawk, Crocodile, Doflamingo, Kuma, Moria, Hancock and Jinbei

- The Whitebeard pirates include Ace, Thatch and Teach

- The Beast Pirates do not have X Drake, Hawkins, Apoo and smiles DFs users

- Cipher Pol, the Holy Knights, Gorosei and Imu are not involved.

In an all out war where each individual stays strictly loyal to their faction, how many Yonko crews would it take to win or is the Navy + Shichibukai alliance winning regardless? How difficult would it be?

I have been told Luffy "breezed" through the Egghead arc

How come he needed his enemy to feed him while he was helpless?

How come he needed the giants showing up with more food to keep him going?

How come his attacks were useless against the Gorosei to the point he needed to run away?

How come he was ultimately saved by Emeth and Joyboy?

Why do so many people seem to think Covenant Harald was only on par or even weaker than Domi Reversi Rocks?

Rocks and Harald were portrayed as equals.

One of them got boosted by the technique used willy-nilly whenever Imu wants additional pawns. Besides Rocks, Domi Reversi was used with absolutely no fanfare to control Brogy, Dorry and their random crew mates as well as the non-combatants that composed the Davy clan on God Valley.

There are no indication that Domi Reversi is anything more that a casual technique from Imu and he himself didn't seem phased by Rocks' defeated.

The Covenants, meanwhile, are a pact Imu reserves for only a select few (13 individuals in total) after years of proving themselves. They result in the person carrying the Covenant to be so closely linked to Imu that their death inflicts clear physical strain on him. He goes as far as to comment that every Covenant comes with a price to be paid by himself (see 2nd image).

Imu was so shocked that something was capable of killing HK Harald that 14 years later, he is still lamenting that loss and came to Elbaph explicitly seeking the person responsible. This is a stark contrast to his complete indifference to the loss of DR Rocks (see 3rd and 4th image).

Now ask yourself this question, if Domi Reversi is the superior power up, what even is the point of the Covenants? Why would Imu use a technique that's limited to 13 people at once and that comes with a high physical risk to himself when he has another with none of those drawbacks? Why was he completely indifferent about the loss of Rocks but is still freaking out about Harald's death and lamenting the loss of such a powerful warrior?

The answer is straight forward, the Covenants are a superior power power up to Domi Reversi. Harald in that state, was stronger than Rocks ever was.

Thought experiment: which country is the closest to yours culturally? Which ones form the closest cultural pair?

As in, if you were suddenly teleported to a random street (with no obvious iconic landmarks) in a foreign country, which one would take you the longest to realize that this isn't your home country.

It would have to be one with the same majority language as yours, no significant differences in accent, the same writing system, similar ethnic composition, comparable infrastructure development, no obvious differences in urban planning, close enough climates etc...

My home country of Senegal shares Wolof with Gambia and, to a lesser extent, Mauritania but it is a minority language in both of those states and much less likely to be heard randomly on the streets. Widespread use of English instead of French in writing would also make for an obvious difference. Would probably still give it to Gambia.

I imagine Canada and the US make a good candidate for the closest pair?
