Starting my journey

Hi everyone,

Tomorrow is my Day 1 of quitting weed after smoking regularly for the past 5+ years. I’ve been reading posts in this community for a while, and I finally feel ready to start my own journey.

For me, weed became a lot more than just for fun. I started smoking during a long period of major depression, and looking back I think it became part of my survival mode. It helped me numb my emotions, avoid difficult thoughts, made eating easier, and eventually became such an automatic part of my day that I wasn’t really making a choice anymore.

As my mental health has started to improve, I’ve realized I don’t just want to quit smoking, I want to reconnect with myself. I spent so long just trying to get through each day that I kind of stopped taking care of myself intentionally. I never really built routines or hobbies as an adult because I didn’t expect much from myself, and I was afraid I’d set goals and not follow through.

This time, I want to do things differently. Instead of just focusing on not smoking, I want to fill that time with things that help me actually enjoy life again. I’m not trying to create the perfect routine right away, I just want to start showing up for myself and participating in my life again.

Something else I’ve realized is that I spend a lot of time overthinking and analyzing myself. I’ve spent years trying to figure out why I cope the way I do, and now I’m trying to shift more of that energy into actually doing the things that help me feel better.

For those of you who’ve been through this:
What replacement activities or hobbies helped you the most?
What did you do during the times you would normally smoke?
Did anyone else feel like they had to learn how to enjoy life again after quitting?

I’d really love to hear what helped you. Thanks for reading, and I’m excited and nervous to start this journey.
