New Person here moving from midwest for Job purposes

Hi! My wife and I will be moving to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, from the Midwest for work. We’re both young, don’t have kids, and are hoping to get a feel for what life is like in the area.

What is the downtown area like? Is it walkable, and are there good restaurants, coffee shops, bars, or other fun things to do for a young couple?

We’re also pretty active. My wife enjoys Pilates, so I’d love recommendations for the best Pilates studios in the area. We’re also looking for a good gym, places to go cycling, and safe nature trails or hiking spots nearby.

We’d really appreciate any recommendations for things to do, places to explore, and ways to meet people and get involved in the community. Thanks!

Signed up for Job, Ambitious about doing Heme Onc After finishing Waiver

Hey everyone! I recently signed up for the J-1 waiver process and would love to connect with others who are on the same path and equally motivated, so we can help each other out

A little about me: I have average board scores, graduated from a community IM residency program, and have built a solid research profile—although most of my projects have been collaborative rather than independent.

I'd really appreciate connecting with someone who has successfully navigated this process. I'd love to hear how you planned your journey, what strategies worked for you, and any advice you have for someone just getting started.

Thanks in advance!

ABIM

I'm taking the ABIM exam on August 13 and would really appreciate some advice from those who have recently passed.

My preparation so far:

  • UWorld first pass (random, untimed): 62%
  • Almost finished reviewing all my incorrect questions
  • Scoring 60–80% on my incorrects during review
  • Completed Awesome Review
  • Planning to spend the remaining days revising my notes/high-yield material before the exam

For those who passed:

  • Which resource did you stick with in the last 1–2 weeks?
  • Did you keep doing UWorld questions or mostly focus on revision or 2nd round of uworld recommended?
  • Was the actual exam more like UWorld, MKSAP, or Awesome Review?
  • Any high-yield topics or test-day advice you wish someone had told you?

Thanks in advance—I appreciate any guidance!

Detroit → Jackson, MS road trip advice?

Detroit → Jackson, MS road trip advice? First time driving this route.

I'm moving from the Detroit Michigan area to Mississippi and will be driving down to Jackson. I'm planning to do it over 2 days because I'm not someone who enjoys marathon driving days. I'd prefer to keep it around 6–7 hours of driving per day.

I was thinking about stopping somewhere around Louisville, Nashville, or maybe Birmingham, but I'm open to better suggestions.

For those who've driven this route:

  • Which route would you take and why?
  • What's the best place to stop overnight?
  • Are there any scenic stretches, small towns, restaurants, or attractions that are worth taking a short detour for?
  • Any roads or cities you'd avoid because of traffic, construction, or safety?
  • Any tips for driving through Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, or Mississippi?

Not in a rush—I'd rather have an enjoyable, low-stress drive than shave off an hour. Thanks!
