Composers for XFCE wayland

Hi guys, I need help deciding which compositor or window manager to use in XFCE on Wayland. From what I understand, Xfwm4 doesn't work on Wayland, so I have to install and configure another one manually, which isn't a problem since I'm coming from Hyprland+Quickshell, but I'm not sure which one I should choose. I'm looking to use floating windows with tiling options. My idea is that, through the UI or shortcuts, it will be possible to switch between floating windows and tiling, although I'll primarily use floating windows. I also want it to be something that can be made to look nice; I don't want to fill it with animations since I'm looking to keep it light, but I want it to look nice like hyprland or mangowm. I'm using Debian Trixie+Backports, so it would help me a lot if it were something in the repositories; I don't mind compiling, but I like to keep things simple. Thank you so much for reading, and I would appreciate your suggestions. Please excuse my poor English, and I apologize if anything was misunderstood, as it is not my native language.

Macbook Air M5/M4 vs Thinkpad

Hi guys, as the title says, I need help choosing between a Macbook and a ThinkPad. I'm about to start university and I was thinking of buying another laptop, lighter and with better battery life, since I currently have a Lenovo LOQ which is heavy and has poor battery life (Approximately 4-5 hours in office work and 1.5 hours playing games). I've heard and seen very good things about MacBooks and they've caught my attention. On the other hand, I've owned ThinkPads and they also appeal to me a lot because of their Linux support (I don't like Windows, I've been using Linux for a few years and I don't plan to switch).

In general, I'm looking for a laptop that has good build quality and feels premium, has long battery life, is lightweight, and is as powerful as possible. Ideally, I can use the LOQ for college, gaming, or other things since I plan to keep it. I would appreciate it if someone could help me and give me some guidance on what I should consider buying.

PD: I'm going to study electronic civil engineering in Chile; this is relevant because of the software I'll be using for my degree.

PD 2: If anyone is interested, the LOQ model I already have is a 15iax9 with an i5 12450HX, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and an RTX 3050 6GB; this might be relevant for a point of reference.

Quickshell en Debian

Hey guys! I was thinking of switching back to Debian because I love the peace of mind it offers, but I have a few concerns I wanted to sort out before making the switch. I am currently using Arch as it is my favorite along with Debian; I chose it because I needed quickshell and hyprland for the workflow I was looking for. Hyprland is a disaster, so I recently switched to niri, which I understand is much better implemented in Debian than hyprland, so I thought I'd go back to Debian because I really like their philosophy and the peace/stability they offer. My problem is the following: for my configuration I am using Niri+quickshell+fuzzel+niri tweaks, but quickshell is not available in Stable. From what I've read, Quickshell is only in the testing and Sid repositories. I don't want to create a "Frankendebian" because it goes against the stability and peace of mind I'm looking for. I considered compiling it from source code, but from what I understand, the dependencies that quickshell requires are more up-to-date than those available in Debian, and I don't want to force updated libraries Because that could generate instability and incompatibility of dependencies as far as I know. So, apparently I can use OpenBuildService, but I have no experience using it on Debian, so I don't know how advisable it is.

I also need to keep in mind that I will be using a configuration with added repositories (Stable+Backports+Nvidia Cuda) because I need a newer kernel and the latest Nvidia driver. Is it possible to install QuickShell without causing too many problems? I would appreciate it if someone could give me some pointers or guidance.

Please excuse my poor English, and also if the question is very basic as this is my first time trying this on Debian.

Help with Niri and the games

Hey guys, I need help with Niri because I just started playing and there are some things I don't quite understand. After the latest hyprland updates, several things in my config broke, so I decided to switch to niri.I must admit that I like it a lot; it's quite fluid and I really like the scrolling. However, there are several things I was used to that I don't know if they can be done in Niri or how to do them.

  1. In Hyprland, when you open a window, it occupies 100% of the available space and then regroups if necessary. In Niri, the same window always opens at 50% and I have to resize it. I know that part of Niri's appeal is the scrolling, and that's precisely why it doesn't work like Hyprland, but is there any way to make the first window use 100% of the space? I would also like the second window to use 50% of the space and the third window to start using scrolling.

  2. I don't understand how full screen works for games. I have two screens (my laptop's built-in screen, LOQ) and a TV. In Hyperland, I could run the games and if I needed to change the monitor window; I simply dragged it and it automatically adapted to the new monitor. In Niri, on the other hand, the fullscreen window directly overlaps when you try to drag it and doesn't fit properly in the space. That's a problem for me, as I often have to move the game window because sometimes I accidentally keep the focus on the wrong monitor, and sometimes I switch monitors because the other one is bigger or simply for convenience.

So far these are the only two problems I've had. I apologize for my terrible English and lack of knowledge; I've been using Niri for about two hours and it's my first time, so I'm a bit lost.

I would be very grateful to anyone who could help me; I'm sorry if it's something simple.
