Help identify “Lucky” / “Chris the Canadian” — man in Amsterdam who lost his identity after a brain hemorrhage in 2023

What’s known so far:

**•**	On **10 May 2023** he collapsed on the street near the **Middenweg in Amsterdam-Oost** and was taken to the OLVG hospital.
**•**	Doctors found he’d had a **brain hemorrhage or stroke**, leaving him with **aphasia** — he can barely communicate and cannot tell anyone his name, address, or history.
**•**	He now lives in a care home in Amsterdam-Zuidoost.
**•**	He was a member of a **Buddhist community on the Middenweg**, where people knew him by the nickname **“Lucky.”**
**•**	He also occasionally drank at the shop **Soup en Zo at Waterlooplein**, where he was known instead as **“Chris de Canadees” (“Chris the Canadian”).**
**•**	He always spoke **English with what sounded like an American or Canadian accent**, and his roots are believed to be in the **US or Canada**.
**•**	Almost the only words he can still produce are English ones like “nonsense” and “definitely.”

If you knew someone in the Amsterdam Buddhist community, the Waterlooplein area, or an American/Canadian expat who went missing or dropped out of contact around early 2023 or before, please think hard — and contact the Dutch police.

Someone out there knows him. Sharing this could reunite a whole life with its name.
