Testing out his landlegs

Saw this little itty bitty dude testing out dry land. My urge is to scoop him up and put him in the big garden where he will be safe from being stepped on. But, the pond area has plants and hiding spots, so happy thoughts he wont get stepped on if he leaves the pond area. He is baby pinky nail sized so Im thinking tiny toad

My pond has an insane amount of snails. Everynight they come out and they are everywhere. I know they eat dead plant matter, but is there a point when you should cull them? They are never on the Lilly leaves, but Ive seen them moving along on the bocopa leaves occasionally.
