book recs

some book recs i thought to share (i brought two brazillian books because I'm brazillian and i like sharing stuff about brazil)

1st:

The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas (not sure which translation is best)

The book is, as the title suggests, a memoir, written by a dead man. Brás Cubas was a member of the Brazilian bourgeoisie during a time where they were so absurdly rich that Brás Cubas did basically nothing but party and laze around his entire life. He did not have to work, just keep appearances.

The fun thing about this book is that, since it is written by a dead man, he does not give a fuck about anything anymore. And beyond not giving a fuck, he is absolutely clueless about his hipocrisy and sense of grandeur, narrating absurd events as if it was all great achievements, such as the time where he tried to make medicine for hypochondriacs, but failed due to death.

2nd:

Countersexual Manifesto:

The countersexual manifesto is the only non literary book here. It's a manifesto about, well, countersexuality, a form of viewing sexuality at a different lens than the western patriarchal perspective. Really fun read.

This book was especially important to me in making me aware of what sexuality really is. The hidden little forms of control that permeate our way of viewing the sexual act itself and alternatives to it.

3rd:

The Passion According to G.H (apparently Idra Navey's translation is the best one)

This is a kind of difficult book to explain. It's basically the narration of a full on breakdown of the mind, a state of extreme dissociation from oneself, the acknowledgement of the purest forms of life and spirituality, of a rich isolated woman in Rio de Janeiro. Extremely difficult to understand, but honestly maybe one of my favourite books ever.

I identify with the book, no wonder I understood it. Having a moment of dissociation where you just exist, not necessarily think consciously, just exist, outside of your body, connected and separate to everything. It's kind of impossible to put it into words, but the book made me feel like that.

4th:

The Illustrated Man

This is a collection of short science fiction stories from Ray Bradbury. The main idea is that there is an illustrated man whose tattoos move around, telling stories from the past, present and future, and the stories told in the book are those painted onto the man's body.

Makes me think somewhat of existence itself. Many stories are linked to life and death, or just really the end of it all. One of my favourites is the story that talks about a world that will end tomorrow. And the way it is presented is just so, surprising. No surprise, anxiety, just a feeling of numbness and acceptance? It's really good. The tattoos itself are linked to life and death, though I won't spoil much more.

5th:

I, Robot

Just a fun collection of robot stories from asimov. They are nice stories that I feel like really paints some varying pictures about what it means to be a machine. Haven't read it recently, though, so I'm curious about if the way it treats robots and stuff mirrors AI in any shape or form. Fuck ai.

pls give some recommends. pls

photography is really cool

not really the most suitable subreddit for photo posting but i feel like it's fun sometimes to just do shit like that

i never could really get into drawing and stuff, (im getting better but it's not my favorite thing nor am i good at it), and so i thought, yknow what, fuck all that im making photos and creating music.

and i feel like that kind of reminds of myself. music and photography are, to me, really awesome ways to portray someone's vision or state. a close friend described my music as formless like an ocean and it really stuck to me. im fucking formless and that is lit

also look at that sky, it's so beautiful, i love dark days.
