Hi everyone! I wanted to share some thoughts on the recent firmware updates, specifically the new version 26.32.10, and talk about where JBL might be heading with future software revisions.
yesterday, I updated my speaker to 26.32.10, and I've noticed some clear changes in the sound signature. distortions are completely gone on the cust eq. On the previous version 26.16.10, they were still very much present. At the same time, the bass response didn't decrease in sensation, it remained exactly the same as it was before.
Since the engineers managed to fix the distortion programmatically, it makes me wonder is it possible that future updates might actually strengthen the bass again? Even if it’s not as deep as it was in the older, original firmwares. Or could they tweak the DSP so it doesn't hold back the speaker's amplitude so aggressively.. As we know, bass sensation directly depends on amplitude if the woofers aren't pushing enough air, our ears simply won't feel or perceive that deep low-end.
Personally, I realized that the core of this issue lies within AI SoundBoost. I honestly hate this trend of deliberate speaker degradation via software. I was extremely satisfied back on version 25.29.10. I understand that JBL's main concern was fixing distortion, but they have a history of doing this. Look at what they did to the Charge6 during past software revisions they ruined the sound. Some say JBL restricts the performance to protect the passive radiators from tearing over time, but I think it’s marketing.
JBL speakers are known for being indestructible. But from a business and marketing standpoint, making a product that lasts forever is "wrong" for profits. They need people to buy the next generation. Remember when Apple intentionally degraded iPhone batteries and performance? They got caught and heavily fined for it. If JBL keeps pushing these frustrating sound downgrades, they might face a similar backlash if enough users get dissatisfied.
