Milled a couple old pine logs the other day.
A bit of waste cutting away the sapwood but the heartwood revealed some ok 1x6's.

I sharpen blades for myself and others, using WM's CBN sharpeners. I don't sharpen carbide tipped bandsaws simply because I don't have diamond stones for such purpose. He brought these three blades for a friend of his who has a mill. I thought they were regular blades and was about to take them out of his vehicle when I saw the carbide tips. And when I looked again, the blades were a wreck. Once was completely toast, one was maybe salvageable, the other was ok but was left way too long on the mill.
I asked him about the blades but he didn't know much about them other than the mill was a Norwood. For myself I haven't looked at the offerings for carbide tipped bandsaw blades. It just seemed unusual for only the raker to be tipped. Can anyone chime in with more information or have experience using them or sharpening them?
It was a crotchety birch, with some hidden rot but I was hopeful for some spalted grain at least near the butt of the log.
