Desktop App doesn't connect to my server - HTTPS issues

Hi, all.

I'm trying to connect the Desktop app on my Windows and MacOS machines with the same result: HTTPS error message.

Connection failed. If you use a self-signed certificate or were recently offline, try refreshing the page. Otherwise ensure you have HTTPS set up properly.

If the server is using a self-signed certificate select it here.

I'm already using it via browser for a while, but decided to try the desktop app for convenience. I can't make it connect. I checked this document here: https://actualbudget.org/docs/config/https

On my cloud server, I used the advised mkcert tool to make it work via browser, and now I can't make it work on my desktop, even after downloading the proper certificate from the server.

What am I doing wrong?

How to play Dolby Vision MKV files?

Hi, all.

I've got a Macbook Air M4 some days ago and decided to play some Dolby Vision MKV files. I just can't find anything to play those files. The typical green-tinted video shows.

I already tried VLC, Kodi, QuickTime, IINA, nothing works so far. What am I missing? Is it really that difficult to play this content on MacOS?

Hi, all.

I started using Signal for video calls lately, after using Whatsapp for a while. One thing that's pretty troublesome so far is how zoomed in the video calls are. It gets to a point where, sometimes, I have to go back to Whatsapp because the calls become too compromised.

A good example is something I faced today. If the other person has the camera on landscape, and I tilt my phone to also be on landscape, the video cuts a lot of the image. It reaches a point where the whole head is out of the video, but if I turn my phone into portrait mode, the head shows, but then it cuts the sides. For this example, I was on my Android Phone and the other user was on a Macbook.

This doesn't make any sense. Why would the app cut the image? Even "to fit the screen" doesn't answer it, since it could easily fit the screen without cutting the corners, like what happens with Whatsapp calls.

How can I fix it?

Edit: add platform info

Hi, all.

I've been looking for a solution to have private video calls without compromising, as much as possible, the privacy of the people involved. Using Whatsapp, and Google Meet, for generic chats is fine, but I don't feel comfortable using them for video calls, extended ones, that are of private nature.

I'm looking into more mainstream/user friendly solutions, if possible. Two options that come to mind are Signal and Facetime. What are other/better options to consider? It can be a solution specific for video calling, doesn't have to include the full features of a messaging app.

Any ideas and comments are appreciated.
