If you can program and found an opportunity to create a great shining force type of game, would you take it?
I have been working on a shining force spiritual successor for a few years. (however it is not related to the shining force universe)
I have
- Outlined a full main story line that is designed to be made into two games (with enough content it would be possible to make a third)
- Outlined the secondary story lines of each of the hero's you get on your journey
- Identified what I think the biggest issues that shining force suffers from then I made a large design document detailing the many changes my game would have compared to shining force that should fix/alleviate those issues and give just a little more depth to the game play
- Designed the Hero characters and for each to have their own unique flavor
- Designed a map of the world that your heroes would travel
- Have created roughly 20 songs to showcase the type of sound I envision for the game
- Have identified what I am confident would be both a cheap and intriguing art style
- Have made a storyboard for a game trailer
- Have compiled a compilation of things such as types of enemies, weapons, level types/unique level interactions, items and a few other miscellaneous things
My credentials are that while I have not been in the video game industry before, I have played shining force and shining force 2 each roughly 15+ times but the sword of haija and resurrection of dark dragon each once. I have read/listened to every review for shining force that I can find and have watched a minimum of 20 different full playthroughs of the different top down view grid based shining force games analyzing what people liked, what they didn't like, and what they never used ect. additionally I have played over 1000 other games which I feel gives me a decent understanding on what and how other games did things right or wrong or badly not to mention I have watched every game making video, or story line video on YouTube that I can find about what people need to keep in mind/convey, all told I have spent easily 2000 hours on just pure research.
I have the personality and gumption to see this game become reality
The thing that I need to work on currently is finding a programmer
Things that I would require
- That they have shipped a game before/ have a profile of their games (making a game is really hard and I would need some proof that they have what it takes to ship a game, not to mention I have an older brother who is a lead developer and he cautioned that first time programmers don't know what they don't know but when programmers have past projects they at least are not going in completely blind)
- That they have played shining force 1 and 2 (I want someone who will be excited about making this game and having played shining force they would be able to understand the changes that I would be making and why)
I do not boast lightly, however I boldly say that swaying a programmer to join in this venture won't be me attempting to persuade them but merely by explaining the game idea itself the game idea will convince them that it is worthwhile
I'm not gonna lie that the current budget is the equivalent of a shoestring and that the realistic chances of finding such a person here is likely hovering somewhere around the chances of slim to none. Nonetheless I feel here would be a good place to start looking as who knows, that time I asked a music producer if he just so happened to know a knife maker that would be able to make a new handle for a broken knife my mother adored for Christmas and he gave me the name of someone who lived like 5 blocks away from where I lived was quite a coincidence, maybe it could happen again.
