My own face scratched out for privacy reasons. This is crazy!!! For reference I live in a rural SMALL TOWN and this NEVER happens I was shook!!
I haven’t checked but I’m about 90% certain this post is the first of its kind on this subreddit. Also, just for the record, not looking for advice, just sharing something I find humorous.
My client’s family is from India. Her mom and dad’s marriage was arranged, and her grandma (her Aji) lives with them. English is all of their second language for reference.
I have reason to believe the grandma is trying to set me up with any member of their family, I don’t think she cares who. She’s FaceTimed extended family members while I’ve been at their house and showed me, saying “OldTrust? This is my little brother. He is SINGLE! Brother? This is OldTrust. She is a TEACHER!! Say hi to each other!!”
Whenever my client and I are in common spaces, the grandma will ask me stuff about myself. “How old are you again?” “Do you cook?” “What does your mom look like? Do you have a picture?” The other day she asked me “OldTrust? I was talking to my grandchild about you the other day. Just to clarify, you have a masters in child psychology, yes?”
…no maam I do not! I have a bachelors in theatre of all things! She looked almost disappointed, I had to hold back a laugh.
The best part about all of this? I’m a lesbian. None of my clients families know for obvious reasons.
Again, not looking for advice. I’m gay and most likely not gonna arranged marry. Also not yet uncomfortable, just amused and thought I’d share.
My leg is being used as a pillow.
I’ll be completely honest. I see so many posts on here with RBT’s saying stuff like “omg my coworker is so mean she makes fun of the kiddo’s vocal stims.”
And… I honestly have no idea what that could possibly look like. 🧍♀️
Every time I see posts like that, it makes me think of echolalia. Is it just echolalia? Are RBT’s echoing their clients vocal stims and other people are just calling it bullying? 🤷♀️
Cuz if so… I gotta disagree. Echolalia is a big part of pairing imo, but I digress.
Anyway, I’m autistic myself if that makes sense. I’m an RBT, and I do in-home therapy (have done some clinic, but limited), so I really haven’t gotten much of a chance to see how other RBT’s act, but I genuinely can’t wrap my head around how this would look. What are people talking about when they say that?
This is as good a sub to post in as any, I suppose.
I’m covered in bug bites. Head to toe. Mostly mosquito, some chigger, perhaps some ant, etc. Ive always had “sweet blood,” but it’s recently gotten so much worse than it’s ever gotten. Here’s some background info for all the bases covered:
I hardly go outside (sunlight allergy). When I do, it’s at night, and I coat every inch of my skin in bug spray or citronella oil.
I’ve already checked my blankets, pillows, couches, mattress, everything etc for ants or bed bugs. Nothing.
My yard gets sprayed for mosquitoes and chiggers routinely (we have a pool and hot tub).
I have two dogs. They’re kept clean. No fleas. We have our carpets cleaned biweekly.
I’m the only one in my house covered in bites. For work, I’m an in-home ABA therapist, and let’s just say neither of my clients are fantastic at keeping their clothes on—I’ve seen everything. No bites on either of them, or any of their family members. One of my clients only has hardwood floors, and the other is subject to “accidents,” so their carpet is cleaned at least once a week on average. Both of my workspaces are very clean homes.
I have O+ blood, I’m aware that’s a bugs favorite.
So with all that context… I’m always either itchy or in pain. The bug bites range from regular red to swollen and huge. They don’t go away within a few days like on a normal person—I’ve had some that have been here for weeks. The last straw was when I thought I was breaking out on my forehead (I never do, it’s always chin for me), but when I took a closer look they were MOSQUITO BITES. I’m a 24yo woman and these damn bugs have me out here looking like a hormonal teenager in need of acutane.
So my question is… how do I make my blood taste nasty? That’s the only thing I can think of at this point to deter them. Should I eat or drink something? Take a supplement or something? I’m at my wits end, here. Any advice is appreciated.
First off, just wanted to say, I’m posting this for laughs. No advice needed. I have no problem with my client doing this, he literally only does it to me and I find it cute.
My client is an 11yo boy who will NOT tolerate my hair being up. I don’t know why, exactly. He lives with several other adult women who all walk around with their hair up OR down no problem. 🤷♀️
Today, I had a session with him. I can’t stand hair touching the back of my neck, and didn’t feel like doing it properly, so before I left I threw it up in a banana clip.
He climbed into my lap and pulled it straight out of my head, very gently (which is interesting because he does have aggressive behaviors). Then, he moved all my hair to the front, said “pretty,” and climbed off.
This isn’t the first time he’s done this 😂 god forbid a girl have a sensory issue 🤦♀️
My session ended an hour ago and I’m still dying laughing at this. Thought I’d share.
I have an elementary aged client who’s aggressive and nonverbal. When he’s aggressing, his mom and I will prompt “safe hands,” and clasp our hands together kinda like 🤝 this.
He also likes to roughhouse.
Well, today, we were roughhousing as his reinforcer. Guess I was being a little too rough. He stopped, looked me dead in the eye, and clasped his hands together 🤝.
I. Was. FLOORED.
Obviously I’m proud of him for functionally communicating that, but I cannot stop laughing. How the turns have tabled 😭
I’m an RBT. I’ve been in ABA for about a year, worked with children over a decade, daycare worker, coach, teacher etc. I’ve been spit on, bitten, scratched, hit, thrown objects at, the whole nine yards. I’ve done it all.
I have a client I am NOT pairing with. He’s fully verbal and uses it. Every time I walk into his house, he makes sure to let me know that he thinks I’m ugly, that my head’s a rectangle, that I smell bad, that he wishes I’d go be someone else’s therapist—any insult he can think of, he throws it at me.
On top of that, when he gets pissed, he likes to throw objects at my head. First it was a shoe, then one of those toy metal cars. Today it was a yoga ball.
Infuriating? Sure. But I’ve handled it so far.
Today he picked his nose and tried to flick boogers at me. I left the room. He followed me, and that’s when the yoga ball was thrown. I burst into tears in front of my supervisor. It got so bad I cancelled my evening session because I genuinely could not stop crying.
It’s wrong to hate a child… right? I keep telling myself that. But I can’t help it. I’ve never had a child dim the light from my eyes like this one has.
I’m just here to rant, honestly. His mom wants me on as a permanent therapist, but luckily one of my other client’s caregivers requested to have me in the afternoons previously, so I’ll be going back to them when they’re back from vacation.
