I currently hold a VP-level position at a $200 million company in the Bay Area, working in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) sector, not the tech industry. While I’m eager to return to tech, my recent CPG experience makes it likely that transitioning into a tech role will be easier.
I’m curious about the strategies employed by individuals who have successfully transitioned to new jobs. Do they wait for inbound emails on LinkedIn, directly messaging people within companies, or simply apply blindly, which obviously gives me the least hope? Additionally, for those who manage to connect with a individuals at these companies, what are the key factors that contributed to their success in securing the job, aside from an internal referral?
Does downplaying the title also help? Titles have different meanings, and since companies are different, I’m not sure if this will add to the current market competition.
