Is it worth reneging credit bearing internship offer?

Hey guys, I'm a Year 3 international student and I'm in a huge dilemma regarding my upcoming credit-bearing attachment.

  1. Company A: Found this role via CareerAxis. Because I'm an international student, they required a school support letter urgently. CAO told me I could only get that letter after filling out the official Self-Source form. Because of tight timelines, I submitted that form last as week.
  2. Company B: This is my dream role and matches my career goals perfectly. I found them directly via the InPlace portal, got a verbal onboarding nod over WhatsApp on May 25th, and they just told me they are sending the formal contract email today.

CAO mentioned that turning in the Self-Source form for Company A counts as a binding commitment to them. However, I haven't signed any employment contract with Company A yet, and the final university approval isn't fully locked in.

As an international student, I can't risk my graduation timeline.

  • Has anyone managed to switch to a portal-approved firm after turning in a self-source form?
  • What are the penalties if I back out of Company A at this stage?
  • Is it worth the risk to pivot to Company B?

Appreciate any insight, thanks!

CAO overseas internship (winter internship)

Hi, I am a student from SPMS considering applying for the CAO Overseas Internship Programme in China, particularly in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou.

I was wondering if there is any information available on the student experience in China, as I was unable to find much online. I am also trying to better understand the value of a 5-week winter internship in terms of learning outcomes and industry exposure.

In this regard, I would like to ask whether past participants (preferrably from CCDS/SPMS) felt that the experience quality is strong despite the shorter duration, or whether it would be more beneficial to prioritise a longer, credit-bearing 6-month internship instead.

If possible, I would also appreciate hearing from any students who have previously participated in the winter programme, and their experience or insights.
