I built a research vault for all four Marathon games — every terminal transcribed, every claim footnoted to source

Over the last few months I’ve been building the Marathon Brane — a community lore vault covering the 1994 original, Marathon 2, Infinity, and Marathon (2026) through Season 2.

It’s built in two halves. One is a word-for-word capture of the source lore — every terminal, codex entry, and intercept, frozen exactly as written. The other is the analysis: linked pages on the characters, factions, places, and ideas, where every factual claim is footnoted back to that source text. Where the games stay silent, the pages say so instead of guessing.

There’s no single way in — every page links outward, so you just pick a thread and follow it. Durandal, rampancy, the Anomaly, the Pfhor, whatever pulls you.

The whole thing also works offline as a single HTML file with search and the graph built in.

Built on the archive at marathon.karnemir.com, with permission. Marathon belongs to Bungie — the in-game text is reproduced for research and community use, kept clearly separate from my own analysis. My work is open under CC BY 4.0.

Would genuinely love feedback, corrections, or threads you think are missing.

I've been building a private (for now! Gotta make a pretty front end next!) Obsidian knowledge graph for Marathon lore — every Intel Log transcribed verbatim, every entity cross-linked, every contradiction tracked rather than papered over. The vault now holds 377 notes covering the trilogy and the 2026 codex, with the M2026 Intel Logs ingested map-by-map (Perimeter ✅, Dire Marsh ✅, Cryo Archive ~50%, Outpost ~90%).

A couple of things have surfaced that I haven't seen pulled together elsewhere. Posting because I want to compare notes with anyone else digging through the codex.

The big one from this week, dropped by Dire Marsh's *Cerebral Record*: the **eight-AI Colony Family Suite** is the Strauss Family Suite Protocol *applied a second time*, at colony scale.

> **Focused Colony Suite:** Arthur / Lilith / Bastion
> **Main Colony Suite:** Arthur / Lilith / Bastion / Gabriel / Icarus / Darius / Naraah / Joy

That's *exactly* the same three-AI architecture Strauss describes in *On AI* Volume 4 (Perimeter codex) — three AIs interlinked but autonomous, two-on-one risk analysis, sharing coding "DNA." The trilogy's Hermes Suite (Leela / Tycho / Durandal) is one instance of the protocol. The colony AI plane is another. **Strauss's design is fractal — applied at the ship and again at the colony.**

Personal Log - Kuzmin,I (Perimeter) is a terra-platforming engineer's three-volume breakdown. V3's closing line is canon-altering:

> *"And we sent that data to the stars."*

Kuzmin's team built the two Perimeter Relays specifically to **transmit subsurface Anomaly readings off-world**. Combined with Survey Drone Cartridge V1's `[REDACTED]` footnote (UESC physicists detected something in the Tau Ceti system *before launch* and routed all discussion through a Mission Special Projects Committee), the picture is: UESC sent the colony to study the Anomaly, then transmitted the readings — *and the Pfhor heard us.*

The South Relay was never finished. Whatever broadcast attracted the 2794 Pfhor attack went out at *less* than the colony's intended capacity. The completed two-relay broadcast would have been louder.

Lads, this is just the beginning… this games lore is so unbelievably rich. I can’t get enough of it, and moreso I can’t wait for more players to uncover it!

Pictures from start to finish ->

  1. Fully zoomed out obsidian vault.
  2. Zoomed a bit more in, we can see how the lore connects to the original trilogy
  3. The links become clearer as we zoom all the way in.
  4. Each node is a fully typed out entry..
  5. Each entry is catalogued per map (working on renaming my folder structure to include the name of each valuables codex entry 1-4/6 usually)
  6. All screenshots of the lore entries in full will be available to see!
