I'm mostly nostalgic for the old Starcall, but almost every one of her abilities used to have some really interesting stuff attached to it. She can heal herself and grant herself extra resistances, so she can kind of lane. It's gonna be fun.

In OD&D, the power of Magic-Users is a bit inflated by this crazy run of levels starting in the mid-game.

I know that the spells are what really matters the most, but it's hard not to notice this discrepancy in the progression tables. Magic-Users are meant to be strong at high-levels, and this is reinforced by the numbers. After the early levels, they are awarded faster and more valuable levels. The Fighting-Man and Cleric have fairly smooth progressions in comparison. The Cleric actually takes on several penalties in the late game; their progression slows and they have fewer name levels and spell levels to work with.

* I left off the +1s for simplicity, but you can see that they only support the trend. With them, a Magic-User actually gets more than 1 HD when attaining the levels of Sorcerer or Wizard.
