Speedlink Competition Pro USB to DB9 conversion

Hi there, I am looking for resources to do an USB to DB9 conversion to this USB competition pro Joystick from Speedlink.

Could you point me to schematics or resources out there regarding autofire functionality? What I have in mind is a circuit to start with to understand how autofire works technically.

Thanks

Competition Pro 5000 1st gen, complete overhaul

As all seems to be about joysticks these days:

I did a complete overhaul from two 1st gen violated Competition Pro 5000 to one refurbished one.

It contains new black firebuttons. The fitment of those was awful as they are not official replacements, just some generic arcade buttons.

The rubber centering was replaced with a rubber to spring mod.

The inner center was completely replaced with a microswitches mounting plate to use microswitches aswell.

All wiring is new using some brand new megadrive 9 pin plug and cable kit.

I really love this all black look now :-)

New newsletter from Commodore

A new newsletter from Commodore was sent recently. I wonder what this announcement might be about?

joystick tester shows all directions active - possible ground short?

Hi,

I have a bought DB9 joystick and connected it to a joystick tester. As soon as I plug it in, all four direction LEDs light up at the same time, even when the stick is centered. The fire button seems to work normally.

Could this indicate that all or one of the direction lines are shorted to ground, or that there is some other grounding issue inside the joystick?

The tester works fine, I double checked it with another joystick.

I guess I have to figure out the pin layout first. Which pin is ground by the way? :-)

What would be the best way to confirm this with a multimeter?

Thanks!

New rubber feet for the competition pro joystick

I just put new rubber feet onto my Competition Pro Joystick.

Just in case you might be interested: the outer diameter is 12mm, the thickness is 2mm on those self adhesive rubber feet.

They are available everywhere, so just pay attention to buy the correct dimensions.

Reworked my Competition Pro with new micro switches

I just swapped the switches from my old Competition Pro to newer ones.

The quality of the new switch, the fitments and the size of the cable lugs it not as high as the original ones, but I am glad there are still spare parts available.

Hey there, I am thinking about modding my Competition Pro with new switches and buttons.

I have these in mind:

Do you recommend these? Are there good and bad ones out there to choose from?

Thanks
