People who work in Finance, what are your favourite podcasts?

Looking for podcasts or YouTube channels that cover:

  1. The current geopolitical and economic situation and how it will affect stock and bond markets.
  2. Analysis of ongoing M&A deals.
  3. Hosts who have a reliable, unique perspective on the market and don’t just make things up.
  4. In-depth analysis rather than simply reading the news. For example, trade war, what does it mean for xxxx industry?

Thank you all!!

UK recruiters: why don’t you ask about visa status upfront?

I’m an accountant with what seems like a fairly strong profile, 2,000+ LinkedIn connections, and I regularly get approached by headhunters and HR for screening calls (I fully appreciate the opportunity and hope it continues this way 😆)

But almost nobody asks whether I need visa sponsorship. I usually have to raise it myself, and the moment I do, the tone shifts noticeably.

If sponsorship is a such deal-breaker, why don’t recruiters just confirm it at the start? A single question on the first call would save everyone a lot of time and effort.

Two things I’d love perspectives on:

**1.** From a recruiter’s point of view, is there a reason visa status isn’t screened for early? Is it a legal/awkwardness thing, or just an oversight?
**2.** Is it wiser for me to bring it up myself early on, or hold off until later (say, the final round) so there’s more invested in me by then?

How to Switch Careers and Start Over?

Not sure I used the best tag.
So I’m an auditor. I worked at one of the Big Four for three years and got my qualifications.
TS, first time passes of my qualification exams, finance bachelor degree
I know there are theoretically many exit opportunities, but when I started looking for jobs, it doesn’t quite seem like that.
FP&A – Based on my chats with recruiters, because the job market is tough, they tend to prefer people who already have some industry experience, or at least people from audit but at a more senior/manager level or with more years of experience.
Internal audit – Um, I want to leave audit.
Deals – Internal deals transfers are super, super competitive. Also, I have family around the area where I live, so I’m not very flexible to relocate, which means I have very limited options. External deals jobs now all require previous deals experience.
Pure finance/accounting roles in industry – In general, I’m not a big fan, but I don’t hate them either. However, a lot of roles require similar experience (and many don’t offer visa sponsorship, which I need).
Credit/compliance – Same as above. Most want similar working experience in the related field.
Consulting – They ask for related experience. If it’s finance consulting, they normally want me to have 2–3+ years of experience using certain accounting systems. I may have seen the data coming out of those systems, but I’ve never posted anything or even touched those systems before, so unless I lie…
I personally don’t mind taking a graduate role just to start over, but most graduate roles require you to be a recent graduate, so I’m not eligible to apply.

Any tips?

How difficult is it to find a job that offers visa sponsorship as a qualified chartered accountant?

For context, I graduated from a UK target school did accounting and finance (undergrad only, no Master’s or MBA), passed my ICAEW professional exams first time, and currently have Big 4 audit experience.

I’m trying to understand how competitive the market is for international candidates needing sponsorship, especially in finance/accounting/consulting roles.

Do employers still value target schools + Big 4 strongly enough to justify sponsorship, or has the market become much tougher recently?
