How should RWBY’s power progression been handled?

This tweet made the rounds of RWBY twitter, and it got me thinking how RWBY’s power progression should have been handled. Maybe they should have been weaker and gradually risen to their Poser era feats instead if CRWBY were that afraid of power creep

FRWBY viewers, what do you think FRWBY did better and worse than the main series?

For example

Better: Hazel’s motivation against Ozpin. I think the best reason to have Hazel side with Salem is to have Ozpin be solely involved in their sibling’s death (accidental or not), which is why I think having Hazel’s brother be consumed by Ozma is better than say Gretchen being a SEW or Maiden, because that still implicates Salem in her death.

Worse: Ironwood turning against RWBY. I like in the main series Ironwood turning heel was because he and RWBY fundamentally disagreed on what was the best way to protect humanity, the problem was V8 where he becomes a full villain instead of gray antagonist. I think Ironwood being tricked into thinking RWBY betrayed him is a bit convoluted and erases the rare good bit of writing that the Atlas Arc had.
