Merci

VLS-TS : Titre de séjour

I came to France as a postdoctoral researcher with a VLS-TS that expires in September. Even though I have a two-year contract, my VLS-TS was issued for only one year.

In May, I applied for a titre de séjour since the VLS-TS cannot be renewed. I was wondering if anyone has been in the same situation and how long it took to receive their titre de séjour.

What happens if I don't receive my new titre de séjour before my VLS-TS expires? I really hate the fact that I might not be able to leave Europe. At one point in my life, I was a refugee without a passport or any way to leave a country (not France). It was a really dark time. So this situation (knowing that I might not have a valid residence permit) is really triggering for me.

Thanks

Tongue swelling

Hello,
I’m a 32F, 76 kilos. I’m not currently taking any medication and I no longer have any medical follow-up. In the past, I used to take Wellbutrin and Quetiapine, but I stopped a month ago.

I’ve been having episodes where my tongue suddenly swells up, like in the picture. It started 5 years ago, with episodes every month. It finally stopped for a year and came back a month ago. It usually happens at night while I’m sleeping, and it’s completely unpredictable. Most of the time, it goes away within a day.

The problem is that every time this happens, I can never get an appointment or be examined while it’s actually happening. By the time I get to the hospital, the swelling has usually already gone down. I’ve already had an MRI done, but nothing was found (except swollen lymph nodes which were not worrisome based on the MD).
I don’t have any known allergies. I also saw a dentist who thought it might be related to eating too much cheese, but for example, it happened again one month ago and yesterday even though I haven’t eaten cheese.

It’s not painful, but it’s very uncomfortable and makes it difficult for me to speak properly when it happens. The feeling is like having a lump in my throat. I am scared that one day, I might be unable to breathe properly.

Has anyone has any idea what this could be? And especially, is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening?

Thank you.

Struggling with biais at work

I recently moved in France for a postdoc. Before that, I was working in an institute where equity, diversity, and inclusion were taken seriously. We had mandatory workplace training that covered these topics. For context, I’m a Black woman.

As soon as I arrived here, I started experiencing what I can describe as “strange” behavior at work. For example, one guy checks my calculations (I'm talking about C1V1=C2V2) or rephrases and explains something I had literally just explained myself. At first, I told myself he was just being helpful. Maybe he assumed I hadn’t received proper training during my phD. And yet, my résumé, papers, honors and prizes speak for themselves… But he doesnt know.

But these incidents keep happening, and I’ve started writing them down. Deep down, I know something isn’t right. At the very least, it feels like mansplaining. Still, I keep trying to come up with excuses for it. Perhaps as a way of protecting myself mentally. In any case, the situation is having a major impact on my motivation.

Since I’m not someone who enjoys confrontation, I stay quiet when these things happen. On top of that, I no longer have the energy to keep explaining my worth. I’d rather demonstrate it through my work and my actions. But honestly, at this point, I just don’t feel like doing anything anymore.

How would you handle this?
