INSURGENCY: Vita - Gameplay Showcase & Information

Hi all!

I've been working on a Vita version of the tactical FPS game, Insurgency. It is based on the 2014 release, with all of its weapons, attachments, maps, and audio. I am aiming to get it to as close as possible to the original in terms of gameplay, with some slight adjustments. It runs between 40-60fps in 16 vs 16, and a pretty solid 60fps in 12 vs 12 and 8 vs 8. Right now, it is offline only and I've implemented a fairly decent bot system. Hopefully, as is the goal, a multiplayer implementation will be added.

Please excuse the fairly chaotic gameplay footage which is 16 v 16 Conquer! You can absolutely have a slower experience with 8 v 8, I just thought it would be a good way of getting some quick combat footage to show.

Right now, the game has these features:

• 29 Firearms: 24 primaries across several weapon classes including rifles and SMGs, 5 unique secondaries. All weapons feature customisation including barrels, muzzle attachments, optics, and ammunition type.

• 18 Maps: All maps from the original game are present, I'm looking at the feasibility of bringing over the night maps as well!

• Progression & Weapon Unlocks: Unlike the original game, I have included a simple career and weapon ranking system that gives you a sense of progression, allowing you to unlock the weapons via gameplay, and their attachments through use of each weapon.

4 Gamemodes: Conquer, with a slight adaption from the original version, plays similarly to Conquest from Battlefield or Domination from Call of Duty; secure and hold the majority of objectives to bleed the enemy team of tickets, each death your team suffers will cost your team a ticket too. Firefight, no respawns, eliminate the other team in a high intensity shootout across the map. Push, one team defends, the other attacks, three objectives to take sequentially. Survival, hold out on your own for as long as you can against increasingly larger and better trained waves of enemies.

There are still a few issues that I am working to solve before releasing a first version publicly, notably the magnified scopes have some issues, bots sometimes get stuck (though often correct themselves with built in recovery systems), and I'd like to clean up some of the audio too.

I’d like to note that this isn’t a port; this is a recreation of the game. It’s not a port of the source engine, rather it’s a ground up remake of the game.

I know Insurgency, at least the 2014 version, is a fairly niche game and that there might not be as big an audience for such a title on the Vita, though I hope a few of you guys will enjoy it!

ELITE: VITA Beta 1 - Stress-testing the persistent galaxy and finding bugs

Download the Beta here!

Hi all!

I am calling upon the community to help me test ELITE: VITA, specifically the persistent galaxy feature, which puts players into a shared universe where your actions have real economic and political effects.

Things will break, there will be bugs, gameplay features may be broken or unbalanced. I haven't even implemented sound yet. This truly is a Beta. I am hoping those interested in the project will jump in and help me collate as many issues with the gameplay, server issues, and bugs so that I can have a clear idea of what needs fixing. I also anticipate the background simulation to either move too quickly or too slowly, depending on player actions and numbers. I'm hoping to get a good idea of what needs tweaking from this test.

There isn't even so much in the way of in-game guidance or a tutorial (though these features are to come), so I am currently writing a guide on the basics of the gameplay and controls on the website.

From the website, you can access GalNet which gives you a real-time update on the status of the galaxy, as well as a form to give feedback like feature requests and glitches. Of course, critique and feedback is always welcome here on this thread too.

Throughout this Beta, I may need to adjust or even reset the galaxy if things break, though this won't affect your ship, credits, location, etc, only the numbers that drive the economies and faction politics.

I might add, if I may, that I am getting married next week! Therefore, responses may be slow, but I hope to leave this Beta with you all and hopefully you'll find many issues that I can come back to fix and improve.

Thank you for your interest in this project, and for anyone who hops in to help test!

Help support the development here, it's greatly appreciated and goes towards the server costs and web hosting!

AI Disclosure: This project is AI-assisted. I work in web development and studied Computer Science, though most of my programming experience is in Python rather than C. AI tools have been used to assist with parts of the development process. However, ELITE: VITA is not the result of careless prompting. I constantly conduct manual code review myself and with a colleague who has significantly more experience than me (thank you, Conor), and the project has undergone around six months of stress-testing on real hardware. It has been extensively tested on an original-model PS Vita and a PS TV, though I have not yet been able to test it on a PS Vita Slim. I understand there is an ongoing debate around the use of AI in programming workflows, especially within the Vita community. This disclosure is simply my heads-up to anyone who would prefer not to run AI-assisted software on their hardware. All the best!

ELITE: VITA - an update and upcoming Beta announcement

ELITE: VITA

Hi guys, I'm super excited to share some of the progress that has been made on what I am now calling ELITE: VITA, an Elite: Dangerous demake of-sorts that also draws heavily upon the original 1984 release ELITE, by David Braben and Ian Bell.

I wanted to list some of the features and gameplay mechanics that are in the current build, but I hope to expand a lot of these in the future, too:

• 1000 systems with unique star, planets, moons, and stations. Planets, moons and stations have simulated orbital movement and lighting based on their current position and rotation.

• 6 unique ships with differing characteristics and upgrade pathways; modules can be bought and upgraded to further customise a ship to fit a particular role.

• The three classic Pilot Federation pathways and ranks (Exploration, Trade, and Combat), that can be progressed through by completing missions or performing certain actions.

• A PowerPlay system with 3 competing factions: factions control systems, can make expansion efforts into unoccupied systems, challenge neighbouring systems that are governed by other powers and eventually bring them into a state of war.

• A reputation system that reflects the players actions, such as completing missions for certain powers. Align with a major power, or remain neutral and play all-sides. Aligning with a faction gives the player access to faction contracts and a wage based on their rank within that faction.

• A detailed background simulation that makes the galaxy feel alive through economic and political changes that the player can influence through combat, trade and mission completion. Happenings in the galaxy are shown to the player through GalNews, a service available at stations that acts as a newsfeed.

• NPCs that act as certain roles (security, miners, pirates, bounty-hunters), and act both towards the player and to other NPCs too to make the world feel alive. Security forces will check you for illicit cargo or protect miners from pirates, bounty-hunters will interdict you if there is a sufficient price on your head, and explorers can be found far from civilised space, just to name a few.

I would really like to release a 'beta' version soon, and I do plan to do so however, it is really important to me that the game is in a fairly polished state before I do. I want to make sure the game is fun and intuitive, right now I am polishing up various UI elements and menus, as well as building in some in-game tutorial elements (like pop-ups and button guides).

Thank you for checking this out, I can't wait to share more information soon! o7

Elite: Dangerous inspired space game I’m working on

Inspired by the lack of an open-world space exploration game on my favourite console, I’ve been working on a demake of Elite: Dangerous.

It’s been a passion project of mine that I’ve been working on for a while now in my evenings. It has basic features like flying around a system in supercruise, mapping routes from a star map, jumping between systems, and some other basics features.

I was wondering if there was any interest from the community as a whole for a game like this, I’d love to get it to a release-ready state soon and share it.
