About backing up saves and games before the stsore closes

Hello. Since the store is closing next year i decided i want to back every game i ever bought, which weren't many anyways, but they are mine and i wanna save them. I saw that you can use an adapter for a micro sd as a memory for the vita, my plan is to get one and download every game in there. My question is, can i do that before jailbreaking? I can format the sd to fat32 on my pc but would the vita read it? Also how do i back up my saves? Is there any brand of SD you recommend or any would do?

noled v2.0: vita slim night owls rejoice!

8 years later, it's done! 🎉

(download link below)

The dreaded green power LED on the Vita 2000 - that little floodlight whose only job was to announce, at eye-searing brightness, glowing up the room's ceiling, that the console you are actively holding is indeed switched on - can finally be turned off. People have been asking for this since 2018, but it stayed unsolved, because the slim's power led isn't wired like the other LEDs.

It turned out it was never reachable via GPIO - it hangs off the syscon MCU ("Ernie"), which drives it from its own power/charge policy. The off switch is a completely different path: sceSysconCtrlLedBlinkType2 (syscon command 0x89F), found by systematically probing the syscon LED command surface on real hardware, one command at a time. (Full disclosure on the how: I did this with a lot of help from Claude - Opus spent weeks going in circles, then Fable traced the right command family and cracked it in a day of hardware sessions.)

It's now a drop-in fork of noled:

  • power LED off whenever the console is on - finally distraction-free play in the dark
  • orange charging indication preserved (also in standby)
  • the plugin re-applies itself after wakeup from standby
  • vita 1000 autodetected - keeps the classic noled behavior

Install: drop noled.skprx into ur0:tai/, add it under *KERNEL in your taiHEN config.txt, reboot. No config file needed; uninstalling restores everything stock.

Download: https://github.com/falkenhawk/noled/releases/

Full research write-up (syscon LED command reference, the LED state model, and every dead end so nobody has to repeat them): https://github.com/falkenhawk/noled/blob/master/docs/pch2000-power-led-research.md

All credit to xerpi and rereprep for the original plugin.

edit: v2.1 is out, see comment below

Save Keeper - back up and sync saves via Google Drive

I wanted my saves to be easily transferable between my Vita and PS TV, so I made this.

What it does

  • timestamped ZIP snapshots of Vita, game card, and PSP/Adrenaline saves
  • uploads them to a "PSV Saves" folder in your own Google Drive - no third-party servers, and the app can only see files it created itself
  • any of your devices can pull down and restore a snapshot uploaded by another one
  • game grid with real titles and icons, Vita / Homebrew / PSP tabs, sorting by name / last saved / last synced
  • Google sign-in by scanning a QR code with your phone - no typing on the Vita, and the sign-in persists
  • before any restore, the current save is snapshotted automatically (content-matched, so no duplicate snapshots pile up) - restoring can't lose anything
  • progress bars for transfers, follows your system Cross/Circle confirm setting, Japanese titles render properly

Download / source / guide

Credits: JKSV for the backup model inspiration, VitaSmith and xyzz for the code that lets homebrew read the Vita's app database (game titles and icons), Project Nayuki for the QR code generator, and the VitaSDK team.

Adrenaline v8.0.0 Release

Adrenaline v8.0.0 is alive!!!!

https://github.com/isage/Adrenaline/releases/tag/v8.0.1

This is a big release, with new features, bug fixes, and more power to players and PSP homebrew developers alike.

It represents community effort, where Adrenaline and ARK developers joined forces to improve the status quo not only for our projects but for the entire PSP(emu) ecosystem.

We hope you enjoy this release.

The new documentation is here: https://adrenaline.sarcasticat.com/docs/

Here are the changes what I believe most people will care about:

  • New graphical filters
  • PS1 per-title image overlay filters
  • Support for all ISO and Compressed ISO formats: ISO, CSO, CSOv2, JSO, ZSO and DAX
  • Improved PBP support (no longer needs plugins to launch official PBP)
  • Improved ISO drivers
  • Improved game compatibility
  • New plugin configuration format
    • One file to rule them all!
    • Support enabling/disabling plugins for specific title ID or binary paths. No longer you need to have a hard time with plugins for specific titles that breaks other titles and homebrew.
  • New GPU-rendered VSH Menu
  • CFW configuration and Plugin manager directly on the XMB
  • Support to select a path to use as PSP System Storage (a.k.a. ef0:. No longer you need to keep changing the Memory Stick path to access both of your drives
    • Read the documentation for some limitations

We have many other changes, perhabs more niche, but you can check the full changelog for those XD

Many improvements for the quality of life of homebrew developers as well.

Update

A point release was made (v8.0.1), fixing a tiny bug that made Categories Lite not able to get to the ISO/CISO files inside the categories folder.

TO the ones that already installed v8.0.0, the update process should be as simple as going to the System Update and download the new version.

Itadaki Street: Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary — English Translation (v1.1)

Looks like a user Fishyfishyfishy on gbatemp created a fan translation for Itadaki Street. Keep in mind this just released, so there might be bugs.

It does look like they're continuing to tinker on it, so it might not hurt to wait for further updates.

https://github.com/fishyitadaki/itadakivitaeng

From what I understand, there's also another user working on their own translation. Considering the nature of these games though, I think even passable translations should be fine.

Edit: changed resetera to gbatemp

New to the Vita, looking for a solution of sorts.

Hi, I recently bought a Vita 1000 model and jailbroke it very recently. Everything was functioning as intended until I realized that the seller had left his account on the device. I used Vita Account Manager to do so, followed the procedure and managed to remove the account without reformatting my SD card.
After that my Vita kept getting notifications of Vitatester receiving an update. I updated it a few times, but every time I powered it on it would still tell me that the app needs an update. First it tells me Vitatester needs an update, I update that then Vitatester MOD needs an update and it continues to go back and forth. I reinstalled both Vitatester and VitaDB but it still notifies me of an update.
It didn't do this before obviously and sometimes when I try to open VitaDB it tells me that it needs an internet connection when the Vita is already connected to the internet. It does open after the second time I try to open it.
What could be the cause of this? I'm super new to this and couldn't really find anything regarding this problem(?) I don't use Enso just the bare minimum of the existing jailbreak with a few plugins.

PS Store: Revival Idea

*pics for attention^* (last pic is smm i'm working on for us :) (dont steal :<)

News dropped a day or two ago that PlayStation is discontinuing the PS Store for Vitas and PS3s.

Even though the store pretty-much has nothing of value to us, what if we all use this week to download as many free games and/or apps as we can (not everything lol, just saying like 3-5 apps or smm). I'd imagine PlayStation seeing an sudden influx of users using their psn servers for their vita. Maybe it'll spark a positive thought into someone higher up @ Playstation, letting them know we love the vita! (this isnt abt the store's revival, its abt the revival of the vita)

what if this is our final chance to let PlayStation know we exist.

what if we just found a flare that we can shoot to let them know not to give up on us and their vita that we find special.

Please don't doubt this idea without a reason, we already don't have many options in terms of helping to save the vita. What do you guys think? and should we start acting now? if we wait too long they may not think of it as a response to the shutdown anymore.

Potential Fix: “Ghost Touches” or "No Touch" on Replacement OLED Screens | PS Vita 1000

I may have found a possible workaround for the ghost touch / no-touch issue on some replacement OLED screen assemblies for the PS Vita 1000.

The issue:
Some aftermarket replacement screens can show phantom touches, random ghost inputs, become unresponsive, or freeze after waking from sleep while the system is charging.

What I found:
In my testing, the issue seems to go away if I disconnect one of the two Wi-Fi antennas from the rear housing.

Current theory:
The aftermarket touchscreen controller seems to be unusually sensitive to EMI/interference when both wifi antennas are connected, and the system is plugged in and charging. With only one antenna connected (doesn't matter if you remove the left or right), the ghosting appears to stop.

Important notes:

  • This is only based on my own testing so far.
  • I have not noticed any major wifi signal loss with one antenna disconnected, but more testing is needed.
  • This may not fix every replacement screen with touch issues.

If anyone else has one of these newer replacement Vita 1000 OLEDs, I’d be interested to know if you see the same behavior.

Project Gotham Racing on PS Vita (Proof of concept)

I had this weird concept in my mind of an Xbox franchise on the PS Vita, most specifically PGR or Project Gotham Racing. There's no decomps or recomps of any of the PGR games right now, and I know for a fact that PGR 3 and 4 will not run on PS Vita even if it got heavily optimized, so I decided to make something of my own in Unity (which happens to have a version for the PS Vita).

It's still a very bare bones proof of concept, but it showcases my idea clearly: Project Gotham Racing on the PlayStation Vita system. FPS could be improved, that's for sure.

My idea is not to make a fully fledged PGR experience, but rather make something that brings the most basic things from said franchise like the Kudos XP system to the console in a portable manner. Look at it as a demo, just a few cars, some racing modes, and off you go to try them out on the PS Vita.

There's many things to fix with this, and my main focus will be the car controller. And no, this is not available for sharing yet, and I quote just like Bizarre Creations quoted when they were developing PGR 4, I'll publish a build of this when I feel like "it's actually done."

RIP Vita and PS3 Store

https://preview.redd.it/nzporse8iuah1.png?width=656&format=png&auto=webp&s=920a33d662d34f1ed4fc45657c0d944fc0135d20

Just received email from Playstation:

Hello NermorX,

Starting in July 2027, PlayStation®Store will no longer be available on PS3® and PS Vita in your region. From that moment on, you will no longer be able to purchase new products on PlayStation Store via those devices. We are implementing this change because, after nearly twenty years, PS3 and PS Vita are no longer compatible with the more modern shopping and payment options and security features of PlayStation Store. Please keep the following in mind: What you will no longer be able to do after the end date: • You will no longer be able to purchase new games, add-ons, or other content from PlayStation Store on your PS3 or PS Vita. What you can still do: • You can continue to play the content you already own, depending on the features and availability of the services per game. • For the time being, you can still download content you previously purchased. You can find more information about downloading content you previously bought via the links below.

MKV's vs MP4's

Hihi! I was wondering why MKV files aren't really supported on the PS Vita. I'm going on a trip and was hoping to watch some of my MKV videos since they have multiple audio tracks and subtitle options. Everywhere I've looked, though, the answer is always just "convert them to MP4."

I was curious if there's a technical reason why nothing has really been made to support the MKV container on the Vita. It seems like MKV can store a lot more features than MP4, and it's a pretty common format for videos with multiple audio and subtitle tracks (and CD's apparently).

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I was just genuinely curious and wanted to understand why support never really became a thing!

*WIP* Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction

Early, early days:

- built from Xbox source and seeking off .xiso-

- GXM backend semi-functional-

-XMV's and XATC audio working-

-menus and inits functional-

-shaders incomplete-

-Havok physics currently disabled and parts have to be built from scratch-

-CPU getting hammered (and that's before Havok integration)-

etc. etc . A mountain of todos

Don't hold your breath on this being dropped anytime soon.

If/when Havok is solved and openworld frames are passable - it'll get a release!
