Freelance Video Editor – Sports & Documentary Style Video Essays

Job Type: Freelance / Project-based (with potential for ongoing long-term work)
Compensation: $50 per video
Project Length: 10–15 minute highly engaging video essays
Niche: Sports history, analytics, and documentary storytelling
Job Description:
We are looking for a highly skilled and creative freelance Video Editor to transform deep-dive scripts and voiceovers into cinematic, retention-focused video essays.
Our content follows a prestige documentary style similar to channels like 3putt, Jon Bois, or MagnatesMedia. We don't just state facts—we build dramatic narratives using smooth motion graphics, clean data visualizations, pacing that keeps viewers hooked, and immaculate sound design.
A massive part of this role will involve visual research and asset gathering. You will be fully responsible for tracking down the perfect contextual B-roll, historical footage, and imagery to bring the narrative to life.
Responsibilities:
Pacing & Narrative Flow: Cut and arrange a 10–12 minute voiceover into a compelling, fast-moving, yet easy-to-follow story.
B-Roll & Asset Sourcing (Crucial): Independently research, find, and select high-quality stock footage, historical sports clips, broadcast footage, and thematic B-roll that perfectly matches the script commentary.
Motion Graphics & Data Visualization: Create clean, modern graph animations, timelines, maps, and text on-screen to explain complex statistics or concepts (e.g., comparing athlete peak ages or historical TV ratings over time).
Sound Design & Mix: Use cinematic background tracks, dramatic atmospheric risers, impact sound effects, and clean audio transitions to enhance the emotional weight of the video.
Color Grading & Texturing: Apply clean color grading, subtle film grain, or paper textures to give the video a cohesive, premium documentary feel.
Requirements:
Style Reference: Must be able to match the editing style of this video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNlGHy9dakI\](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNlGHy9dakI) (Pay close attention to its clean text animations, smooth custom graphs, and use of archival sports footage).
Software Proficiency: Expert knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, or DaVinci Resolve.
Independent Researcher: Ability to take a script and instinctively know what visual B-roll or graphical representation is needed to make a scene engaging without being micro-managed.
Attention to Detail: Excellent timing, framing, and a strong understanding of YouTube viewer retention mechanics.

How to Apply:
Please send over:
1 A link to your portfolio or specific video edits that showcase your ability to handle long-form storytelling or video essays.
2 A brief note confirming you are comfortable with the $50 per video rate.
3 Your typical turnaround time once provided with the script and voiceover.
