Steelers’ despair

Not directly related to us (or is it?) but I love watching the Steelers becoming a clueless franchise. Bent their knees to a washed up QB who obviously has no desire to put in the effort to win a SB anymore. They always cling to the idea of a “winning” season with close to 0% chance of a real playoff run. Their defensive core is aging and very expensive. Keep having 9-8 seasons and picking in the 20s boys, you will never get a real QB.

This division is looking better and better for us. Lamar cant be trusted in the playoff and the Browns, well their franchise logo should be next to losers in a football dictionary.

Since the draft, we have seen many posts about signing veteran LBs like Wagner or Okereke. I am all for signing a vet for depth and growth of our young LBs. Just a few thoughts:

  1. Not all vet signings result in mentorship or significant improvements in a team. Some times unsigned old vets are just it. They cant do the things they want to do mentally anymore. Particular for a very difficult position like Mike LB.

  2. There are no questions Knight and Carter were awful last year. However, the original plan was still to start Wilson and let Knight and Carter get NFL experience. It didnt turn out well since Wilson declined so quickly (again point 1). Our young guys had a bad year, but its not that unfamiliar when you take a look the top Mike LB now and the past few years. Jack Campbell, Devin Lloyd, Jordyn Brooks, Roquan Smith, Demario Davis, Quincy Williams. These are current or past former All Pro and they were in the bottom third of their position (PFF grades are not the gospel but we have to settle for these since we are going back years here).

Its a very difficult position, you have to attack the run, cover TEs or slot WRs depends on matchups, diagnose the play and direct the defense. People say TE is a hard position to succeed in the NFL in the first year, try Mike LB.

All I am saying is lets be patient. We dont like Lou because he didnt develop young players. So now lets develop them.

Your thoughts?
