12.6.4 HW3 First Impressions
For context I’ve owned this HW3 model 3 for just over year. It was bought used so I was never given a trial and I don’t do enough driving to justify paying the $100 a month (and so I never did). This weekend decided to take a road trip just over 200 miles one way so I decided to see how well it could perform. All I have to say is wow, I’m blown away. I’ve done more driving in my time than most, but if I was a driving instructor observing not knowing a computer was driving I don’t think I would be able to tell. A few hard breaks for skid marks and taking right turns on no turn on reds but frankly I found myself enjoying the ride as a passenger the entire trip. Regardless, I’ve been using autopilot on the highways and FSD with zero nag asking to apply pressure to the steering wheel is a godsend. The occasional pay attention to the road notification for gazing at at mountainsides a few seconds too long were probably warranted, but that’s how comfortable I got with it driving in under 4 hours ride. That’s all just came to say, I’ve never experienced HW4 but I don’t get the hate? As a driver with over a million miles drive time do we even want to be so comfortable with a computer driving we’re not even focusing on the road anymore?
Anyway, throughly impressed and will see how much I use it the rest of the month running around town.
