How do you decide on jeans?

Hi everyone, I'm starting to get into heritage wear/classic American fashion. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed in trying to decide on jeans. There's a store nearby that sells Freddie's of pinewood jeans, but I've also seen a lot of people praise Sauce Zhan.

What do you typically look for when it comes to jeans? Is there anything that makes or breaks a pair?
