Left Field NYC 18oz Muleskinner Sashiko Jacket

I had to make this post because I haven’t seen anyone talk about this jacket. It has quickly become my favorite jacket, second only to maybe my Freenote RJ-1, although they are useful for different situations.

The fabric is loosely woven, giving it an unbelievably soft texture and has a wonderful drape. The cut is fairly boxy, but it falls in a flattering way and is comfortable and easy to move it. It is also quite breathable, and I can comfortably wear it even on days in the high 80s (for some light/moderate walking outside). Despite the fabric being 18oz, it’s probably more breathable than my 14oz cotton/linen type II from Iron Heart.

The details and hardware are beautiful. The buttons are painted green, which will chip off over time, and the stitching around each buttonhole is matching green. It goes nicely with the jacket. Again, not typically someone who would go for the pop of color, but it works great on this jacket. There are also leather washers on the back of each button for durability, which is a nice touch. The rear buckle is quite detailed and adds to the piece. The pocket bags are also quite artistic and add a nice flair, plus they’re thick and soft. The leather patch is kind of a beast but isn’t noticeable when worn.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect for the color, since it is lightly stonewashed prior to sale, but it is still quite dark (which is good). I normally don’t go for pre-washed items, but, in this case, the washing makes it look incredible in person.

They mention online that the washing also damages the jacket a bit, which they repair by darning. The irregularities and repairs blend into the jacket seamlessly (pun intended). I know this is almost antithetical to the usual focus of denimheads, but I assure you that the jacket has plenty of wearing in and fading left to do.

I can’t recommend this jacket enough. I’d never tried anything from Left Field before, but wow, I’m impressed.

More Double Denim

As I continue to wear this jacket as often as possible and earn some fades, I try to at least switch up the pants. It turns out mostly to just be jeans, but oh well!

Is this peacoat too big

Hi all. This is my first time in this subreddit. I just thrifted this Sterlingwear of Boston Navigator 34R. I feel like it's too big but some online guides say traditional peacoats are meant to be big, and the sleeves should cover part of my hands. I'd like to know your opinion. Thanks all!

Anyone rocking this hat? It’s just so goofy looking but if anybody can pull it off it’s this sub.

Dyed some of my clothes black and very happy with the results.

Had too many green clothes and wanted to change it up. I also dyed a Uniqlo thermal not pictured here. Had to use both a cotton and poly dye so the stitching and buttons took the black color.

I used a 16qt steel pot and dissolved 2x packets of iDye black, 1x packet of iDye Poly black, 1 cup non iodized salt, 1/4 cup baking soda. Boiled and stirred for 1 hour then machine washed with a dye fixative.

Master Supply Field Jacket in Natural

Great leather quality. Thick and a bit stiff but also feels almost sueded. It does come the factory with some minor staining.

Interior feels nice and overall the construction feels solid.

Extra props for the team. I called about some concerns about sizing and after some back and forth they made the jacket exactly to size for me with no extra charge. The fit is really perfect.

I think I'm sold on buying another jacket from them. For the price (~500 euro) this jacket is really good value.

Day One: Ondura Slim Biker Wallet (Vegetable Tanned)

First day of the journey with my new slim biker wallet, really looking forward to the patina.

Made from 3mm thick vegetable tanned cowhide left completely natural. So it should pick up all the oils and grime to develop a beautiful patina. Solid brass hardware.

Will combine it with the Kobashi solid brass oval wallet chain, to not go full rockabilly wallet chain.

Weekday casual

Not sure if this is technically heritage wear. It’s been 85 degrees out every day for the last 3 months, so this is about as much as I can get away with wearing.

Shirt from marine layer. Pure blue Japan tapered jeans. Nicks Robert boot. Lock and co Florida linen cap.

How it's meant to be used (?)

The other day, I was on a weekend trip to a cabin in the woods (Chilean Patagonia), and to keep us warm, it was time to bring out the logger inside me. Gotta say it was a lot of fun, and even though it was quite cold outside, the weight of the garments made me feel protected from both the weather and any accidental axe damage xD. Guess the old guys from the PNW used to do this in 999% harsher and tougher ways back then, so this is a 21st-century accommodated way to feel what they used to do, as they inspired the clothing we all love here.

Heritage wedding wear

Need some advice and guidance for inspo on some heritage inspired wedding appropriate wears. I suppose that implies less formal, but still something that won't be out of place in a wedding setting. Searching through all the looks in this sub and although everything is put together, it is mostly on the casual side of things.

Soaking UHR

Got the 555 UHRs home yesterday and first job was proper pre-soak measurements:

Waist — 22.4”
Front rise — 12.8”
Inseam — 35”

They’d already been hemmed from 37” to 35”. I’ve only got really short legs anyway and wanted enough length left for the big Japanese cuffs I’ve always fancied but never had the balls to try.

Bath time! Hot water, fully submerged, no agitation, with a few jugs and bowls holding everything under the water. I did briefly forget to turn them inside out because excitement apparently overrides instructions but caught it quickly.

An hour later: drained, hung outside in the shade and left to air dry. Once fully dry, and genuinely the CRISPIEST fabric I’ve ever handled , I measured again:

Waist — 21.8”
Front rise — 12.5”
Inseam — 34.2”

So roughly:

0.6” off the flat waist
0.3” off the rise
0.8” off the inseam

All in all not huge numbers, but you can definitely feel it.

I then set the cuffs: 6” folded up, giving me an approx 3.5” finished Japanese cuff. They look a little big but I’ll wear em a while until they loosen up and settle before I decide whether to have more off in length.

Obviously this is only what happened with my pair, so your mileage may vary, but if you’re sizing, hemming or preparing to soak some UHRs yourself, hopefully it helps.

Lee storm rider jacket ,1950s?

Looking to date my lee storm rider. It has a faded union garment workers tag on the inside right side chest pocket. There is no evidence of any interior collar tags ever being stitched in.

How do you decide on jeans?

Hi everyone, I'm starting to get into heritage wear/classic American fashion. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed in trying to decide on jeans. There's a store nearby that sells Freddie's of pinewood jeans, but I've also seen a lot of people praise Sauce Zhan.

What do you typically look for when it comes to jeans? Is there anything that makes or breaks a pair?
