Good Flight Jacket

Does anyone know where to find jackets like this for under $300? I like this one a lot but I don't trust the brand that sells it.

Should I replace my favorite lost Imogene + Willie jeans with a selvedge pair?

I lost my very favorite jeans (right pic) and am wanting to replace them. Am I making a mistake by buying a dark selvedge replacement instead of the wash I had? The cut, brand, and hopefully fit would be the same but I'm not sure how much of a vibe change it would be? Do I love dark wash selvedge and don't know it yet?

So how high are we cuffing our fatigue shorts this year?

This middle aged dad of a toddler couldn’t find the memo about this year’s short length. Are we doing two or three inches up from the knee?

Yes, these thick thighs save lives.

Whitesville T Shirt Sizing

I'm 6'2 165lbs wearing a size large. Most of my t-shirts are an American size large and are quite oversized. I really wanted the whitesville tee to be a bit tighter and more form-fitting, particularly around the neck, arms (twigs), and shoulders. Most importantly I want these shirts to be much shorter than this currently is, while still having some looseness. I ordered a size medium to try it on, but I've since learned that these shrink quite a bit. How much do they shrink? Should I forget the medium? Sorry for my messy room. Also wonder if I should follow the philosophy of going up a size due to shrinkage with similar shirts? (Buck mason tubular, rogue territory, wonderlooper, McCoy's, Bronson, etc.)

Synthetic Fibers

I’m just curious how everyone feels about synthetic fibers. I’ve been rebuilding my wardrobe and trying to stay away from them. Just curious what is everyone’s opinion on synthetics

A couple days ago I posted about these Motors I had rebuilt by Unsung House but I wanted to show you how incredible the overdye job they did turned out. Every time I look at these I marvel at this mottled brown over black dye job..Incredible..

Which size suit jacket should I go with? Left is size 40 and right is size 42. It the chambray peaked lapel jacket by Belafonte ragtime clothing.

The 40 seems a bit restrictive in the chest and sleeve length, but does look better when standing still.

First Olderbest order came in....

First: Has anyone bought the cotton seersucker shirts from Olderbest/Time Catcher? The fit is pretty much perfect out of the package - I'm just wondering if I should size up in case it shrinks.

I read various posts from this sub to help inform sizing for this order from the sub-brands of Bronson, Non-Stock, and Time Catcher. Overall, the advice for most items is:

  1. Read the fit/size guide for each individual item.

  2. If you're between sizes, err on the side of going up.

The Bronson Breton Stripe long sleeve, Non-Stock cotton climbing pants, and Time Catcher 1-wash jeans were exactly as per the size chart. Just a smidge oversized to account for slight shrinkage in a cold wash.

Being between sizes, the seersucker shirt I expected to be a bit large but it fits perfectly. Now I'm just concerned about shrinkage.

The Time Catcher oatmeal Henley I expected to be perfect or a tad large but it's a bit snug. This one, I'm planning to exchange for a larger size.

I hope this adds to the hive mind of knowledge. I waited about 2 years to place an order with these guys and I'm very happy with the quality and cuts of the items.

UES BD Oxford Shirt

Top to bottom
Ues BD Oxford shirt
Whitesville T
Flat Head 8004
Grant Stone Ottawa boot
I recently picked up the UES Oxford and can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking to add a quality, textured Oxford to the mix. I did size up quite a bit to get the fit I was after. I did not want a fitted look so I wanted a decent fit in the shoulder but wanted a relaxed fit in the body.

Studio D'Artisan Amami Dorozome Mud-Dyed Jacquard Vest

I'm a big fan of vests which I find really versatile across different seasons. I've got a couple of wool/wax and denim ones for the cooler months, and two sashiko ones which work great layering over t-shirts when it's warmer. When the temperature hits 28ºC and above I'll typically just be in linen and light cotton shirts, but I find this type of layering works perfectly on a day like today where it's 25ºC and windy with intermittent clouds.

The newest addition to my vest collection is this Studio D'Artisan jacquard vest made using a 1000+ year old mud dyeing technique. The texture on it is crazy, combining the unique colour from the mud dye with a mix of jaquard and sashiko weave. Paired it with a nice textured t-shirt and some Engineered Garments fatigue shorts I picked up on eBay for £60.

Doek shoes sizing

Has anyone here (especially those with wide feet) owned both the Basket and Court lines from Doek shoes? I’d love to hear about your experience.

A while back, I emailed Doek for sizing advice and told them my feet are about 4.4 inches (~11.2 cm) wide. They replied a bit reluctantly, warning me that the Oxford line is the narrowest and that I should think twice if I wanted to buy it (so I skipped that one, obviously). They mentioned that the Basket is their most comfortable/roomy line, followed by the Court.

I’m really curious about these two lines and want to hear from anyone who has owned both. Is the Basket truly the most comfortable? And with wide feet like mine, is the Court still a safe bet? (Since the Basket is already sold out in my size). Thanks!

Unpopular opinion: Heritage just isn't good for hot weather.

When I think Heritage, I think layers, jackets, boots, jeans, work wear etc. When the mercury hits 100, I'm out. I'm back to cargo short, sneakers and light tee shirts. Maybe some linen button ups.

I can't abide Hawaiian shirts. Never have. My dad started wearing them in his 50s so that means they are dad-wear to me. I'm a grandpa now, but I don't want to look like it.

High waist shorts? It looks like the sort of thing kids used to get their asses beat for when I was young.

Loafers with shorts? See above. It looks like something Urkel would wear.

Shorts that are cut way above the knee give me OP shorts flashbacks. Gross.

I'd like to wear boots with my shorts but I just don't have the legs for it.

So, sorry y'all, I'll be planning for the Fall and trying very hard not to comment on "summer outfit" posts.

Heritage clothing websites, podcasts etc.?

One of the things I most like about this hobby is reading / watching / listening to stuff about heritage wear. Can anyone recommend any good websites, youtube channels, or podcasts? These are the ones I know about:

Websites / social media
Reddit (obvs)
Facebook raw denim page
Superfuture
Denimhunters*
Japanalogue *
Stridewise
Heddels

Podcasts
Iron Cast
Denimhunters

Youtube
Cameron O
Iron Snail

I'm most interested in good podcasts and websites with interviews, reviews, etc. like denimhunters and Japanalogue (my two personal favorites).

Thanks all!

Ghurka Pants Safari?

Finally got the full warm-weather heritage rotation sorted out today and wanted to share how the proportions landed.

The Shorts: These are the What Price Glory (WPG) Gurkha shorts. I cuffed them up just a bit to hit at that authentic, mid-century British/Commonwealth military length. The double pleats and the cross-over waistband give a really nice architectural high rise.

The Shirt: Paired them with a textured Fullcount popover utility shirt. Tucking it all the way into the high rise creates that nice, relaxed "blouson" volume up top that tapers down sharply at the waist.

Footwear: Anchored the fit with rugged Paraboot Lis Americas and chunky white ribbed socks to keep it feeling grounded.

Let me know what you think of the silhouette! Always trying to balance historical military tailoring with something you can actually wear day-to-day.

My Final Four: What A Long, Strange, Expensive Trip It's Been

Whites, Nicks, Wesco, Franks, Vibergs, Attractions, Motor, Lofgrens. I've owned them all. When I think about how much cash l've burned through over the years in pursuit of the perfect fitting engineer boots I just shake my head. In hindsight I would say I probably would have been better off saving my money and going straight to custom made instead of playing “Last Roulette” with every PNW boot maker in the country. I remember when I started the slogan with one of the retailers was "Own Fewer Better Things"...an ironic phrase my wife would taunt me with every time the UPS truck pulled up. Well gents I'm done. This is it. No more. This is my final four and they represent the pinnacle of handmade boot making. There may be better leathers out there but no better makers and no better fit. I feel like these four pairs are the best of the best. They were expensive but I’m finally satisfied and the grass is not going to get any greener than where I’m standing. Now, I'm told by guys that have been in the boot game longer than me that there is a specific transmission pathway this disease takes. My mentors predict that my disease will soon metastasize into a full-blown cowboy boot obsession and the cycle will begin all over again but for the time being I’m happy with what I’ve got. These are my final four and I'm done buying.
