Still Figuring Hot Wear?

Still Figuring Hot Wear?

Okay so still expanding wardrobe for summer wear. We've just hit a mini heatwave where I am and had a few pieces from a couple of weeks ago i've not yet worn. Still playing into the summer military athletics vibe that you all don't seem too keen on haha.

Advice on fit and feedback welcome?

More jacket weather

Ship John Decade Wills Jacket
Iron Heart slubby flannel
Samurai denim
Wesco x Shop Vancouver boots
HW dog Hat

I’m not ready to give up jacket weather. I will wear flannels, jackets, and such until the wheels fall off. Fortunately the next few days looks pretty cool, but we’ll see how long that lasts

Can I save this Freenote utility shirt?

Long story short: my tailor mistakenly shortened the length of the shirt twice, instead of shortening the length once and then shortening the sleeves. Clearly, it can’t be worn untucked now.

What do you all think, does tucking it in with rolled sleeves work given its weight/thickness? Or should I sadly lay her to rest?

TIA

Leather belt question

I wasn’t sure where to post this so feel free to point me in the right direction if this is the wrong place.

I got this veg tan belt a few months ago. I wear daily including work. I can sweat a lot on my back and my belt has taken on the sweat in result of said sweating. Is this common? Is there anything I can do to fix it? I have conditioned it a few times but still very noticeable. It looks cracked but there no actual cracking of the leather yet.

Any help would be appreciated!

CPO Shirt ID

I've seen Nunez rep a lot of IH and other great brands on Ink Master, but curious about this shirt in particular. Google lens didn't assist much. It looks like an indigo sashiko wool CPO with anchor buttons.

Freenote Midway is close, but the pocket shape is different. Pike Bros CPO looks like a very close match, but they don't seem to offer the same fabric. Thinking it has to be some kind of Japanese repro with a twist or some MiUSA boutique similar to Mister Freedom.

Tweed when it's 90 degrees out

I'm sure wearing tweed when it's hot out sounds crazy, but look at the second picture. The weave is incredibly loose and the fabric is lightweight, meaning it breathes well and feels comfortable even when it's hot out.

The work coat is a very light denim as well, maybe 8oz and it's unlined. The chambray is lightweight and loose fit, so it's not glued to my skin. So even though I'm completely covered, I don't feel overheated. I know people focus on wearing shorts and short sleeve shirts in the summer, but take a look at how other cultures handle living in hot climates. Bedouins are covered head to toe in light fabrics, the same principle applies here.

Are Irish tweed caps underrated in heritage style?

I’ve been getting more interested in heritage-style clothing lately, especially pieces that feel rooted in craftsmanship rather than trends. Irish tweed caps caught my attention because they seem like the kind of accessory that can add character to a simple outfit without being loud. I like the idea of wearing one with denim, boots, a plain jacket, or heavier knitwear, but I’m also aware that flat caps can look a bit costume like if they’re styled badly. The line between classic and old-fashioned feels pretty thin with some traditional accessories.

B-day gift Iron Heart Flannel

My mom caught me so off guard! She bought me an old color way of an Iron Heart flannel I’ve been wanting for a long time! Feel like it’s a great fit even though it’s a size bigger than I usually use

OCBD

I haven’t really dabbled in prep since HS, but I somehow have been obsessing over this Gitman Vintage OCBD for the last year or so. Just picked it up, and am trying to break it in and find its place in my wardrobe. It seems to already get a decent collar roll!

Orslow vintage fit fatigues advice - colours and fabric

I'm thinking about buying Orslow vintage fit fatigues. Either the dark olive (sateen) or the army green (herringbone twill), or maybe even both at some point.

How do they compare in terms of weight and breathability? Is one more suitable for warmer / humid weather than the other (I'm not interested in the summer fatigues)? I live in a more tropical climate.

How about the fade potential?

Given they're both green, but different shades, is it worth buying both for the wardrobe? Would you say one is more versatile than the other?

-A MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER-

"Hey guys, Jordan here from Heat Straps. First off, thank you for having us. A lot of what we do exists because of communities like this that genuinely care about how things are made, why they’re made a certain way, and the people behind them. My brother Tyler and I are career firefighters from New Jersey, and we started Heat Straps making products we personally wanted to wear and use. From the beginning, the goal has been simple: build honest products with the best materials we can find and manufacture them right here in the United States. Everything we make is driven by function, durability, and real-world use rather than trends. We’re proud to still be producing in small batches with a hands-on approach, and we’re grateful there are still people out there who value that level of craftsmanship and transparency. Looking forward to talking shop with you guys, answering questions, and giving some insight into what it’s really like running a small American-made workwear brand today."

-SHOP SPOTLIGHT-

"High quality American heritage workwear, made the way things used to be. Bringing back the skillset that's missing."

What started it all - Their flagship product, the Heat Strap Glove Accessory

A small grass-roots brand, quickly gaining popularity through first hand experience and word of mouth, a reputation built on their designs made with clear intention; Heat Straps, founded by career firefighters Jordan and Tyler Lang is, unironically, ready to face the literal & proverbial fire. Their beginnings based in practicality, the thought "why should I go without my fire gloves on the job" lead to their invention of a ski strap like accessory for your gloves that is also fire retardant. Thus solving a key issue for firefighters across the globe and subsequently jump starting their workwear brand. Now capable of focusing on sourcing the highest quality materials and utilizing the highest level of craftsmanship, they continue to develop clothing in a tier of it's own.

Tan Chief Vest - Olive Yarn Dyed Flannel - Slate Field Pant

Their team consists of about 5-7 (depending on the particular job) highly skilled artisans who craft each garment by hand with meticulous attention to detail in their factory in New Jersey. Even for such a small team they produce some truly next level results. To produce garments of this quality Heat Straps sources materials from some of the best woolen and textile mills and tanneries from around the world, namely USA, Japan, and Italy. Materials such as their proprietary wool woven here in the USA, their 26oz. Hardwear Wool; or their insane 16oz. Japanese Sashiko that has a depth of indigo like no other; or their highly anticipated Italian Wool Pile Pullover to their well regarded Italian Linen Shirt. Even the leather straps (an often overlooked but crucial component) on their duffle bags are sourced from Siedel & Horween! Heat Straps cuts no corners to produce garments capable of being passed down, worn in not out, heirloom quality.

Insulated Chief Jacket - Tan

Making national headlines while still keeping true to their ethos has helped solidify Heat Straps as a MiUSA workwear & heritage wear staple akin to other well-known, classic americana brands. Having featured stories on "Fox Business - Making Money" and "ABC's - World News Tonight" are huge milestones for any mom & pop, self-made brand just for the awareness alone. We all know the small niche brands because we're involved in this little corner of fashion but to have national publicity on your brand like that, especially as a niche brand, can be game changing. Opportunities like these allow the average person exposure to clothing as it should be made and hopefully deter fast fashion one consumer at a time. Reminding consumers brands like Heat Straps still exist and are trying their hardest to keep the skill & craftsmanship of textile/garment making alive and well.

T-shirts for Marlon Brando “undersized” fit?

I’m surprised this question has apparently not been asked in this sub, but does anyone have experience or advice on how best to replicate Marlon Brando‘s tight T-shirt look? Before anyone asks I am at least as jacked in every upper body body part as he is in Streetcar Named Desire :P I am also aware that they tailored and did tricks to make it look super tight, and I’m not trying to replicate it 100%.

Are actual loopwheel T-shirts better for such a purpose than non-loopwheel tubular because the fabric stretches better? Presumably you want something relatively lightweight, because heavyweight just wouldn’t stretch? Unfortunately or fortunately this rules many options out since heavier weights dominate the loopwheel space. Real McCoy actually advertises their 2 pack and undershirt as undershirts, any other brands that do undershirts? Do I just have to try every 6oz or below tubular made in Japan until I find the fit that’s as good as possible? Looking for other people’s experiences.

Thoughts on manufactured 'wear' Fullcount US Army covert pullover Chambrey

When it comes to heritage gear, I know we all love the journey to fade/patina but I recently found this Fullcount US Army Covert Twill Pullover Shirt/chambray and it completely flipped my perspective.

For me, it was the perfect find. The way they’ve handled the manufactured wear—the subtle wash, the softening of the fabric, and the vintage drape—feels incredibly authentic rather than artificial. Because it’s a lightweight pullover style, having that stiffness already washed out actually makes it sit perfectly right off the hanger. It’s the first time I’ve intentionally bought a piece with pre-manufactured wear instead of trying to grind out the fades myself, and honestly, I couldn't be happier with how it frames a fit.

How does everyone else feel about pre-distressed pieces from top-tier Japanese brands like Fullcount, or do you strictly stick to breaking things in from raw?

What's that on the floor?

Double Denim - ish.

I almost live in this pop-over from Fulmine Mercantile in neppy denim. I was really trying to fade it for the "indigo invitational" , but it's a stubborn git... which I kinda like. Not sure I ever want to fade it now.. the neppy denim is just right.

This style popover is very faithful repro of the original US ARMY utility popover, right down to the metal buttons, wide sleeves and chest pockets. Later these same popovers (sold as surplus) were adopted by some prisons as work wear for inmates!

JEANS: Beams Japan - it may seem like I wear these all the time but I bought three pairs in a mega sale (!!!) in case they stopped making them lol.

SHIRT- Fulmine Mercantile US Army Pop-over

SHOES- EPT Dive - Overdyed in Olive

NECK - VisVim double bandana

WATCH - Seiko SKX007J

Does anyone else buy multiples?

Forgive me, r/HeritageWear, for I have sinned

I did a Very Bad Thing and bought a TCB Fat Cats Faded S40s jacket. It comes already faded / distressed, and I love it. I have a couple of type 2 jackets I'm working on fading myself, but really wanted a type 1 to go with my Samurai Year of the Dragon (pictured), which I've been wearing non-stop for 5 months now. I got the jacket new(!) from a seller in Japan, for less than $200 including shipping, so a good deal.
